XLRI commences session 2014: Focus on world-class skills says Fr. E. Abraham, S.J.
Xavier School of Management (XLRI) Jamshedpur has announced the commencement of new academic session 2014 on June 16, 2014
Drawing up a special Orientation Programme for the new students to refresh their knowledge base before the class commences, Xavier School of Management (XLRI) Jamshedpur has announced the commencement of new academic session 2014 on June 16, 2014 with an inaugural prayer service function. New students were welcomed in presence of all the current students, faculty and staff members. The welcome ceremony was addressed by Fr. E. Abraham, S.J., Director of XLRI and Prof. Pranabesh Ray, Dean- Academics at XLRI.
A batch of 480 students of the three flagship programmes: Business Management (BM-180 students), Human Resource Management (HRM-180 students) and one year General Management Programme (GMP-120 students) joined the student fraternity of XLRI.
Besides, 14 students in Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), 16 students in Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM) have enrolled themselves for the doctoral programme and 56 students have been selected for the Business Management Evening (BME) Programme.
Welcoming the new batch of students Fr. E. Abraham, S.J. impressed upon them the need to evaluate as to how they could contribute in the task of nation-building. Sharing a deep insight he commented The creation of world-class skills is assumed to be a route to economic prosperity, reduced income inequalities and social cohesion. Such policy prescriptions rest on the idea of a knowledge economy where innovative ideas and technical expertise hold the key to the new global competitive challenge. Motivating the new batch on the occasion, Fr E Abraham inspired the aspiring achievers by pointing out the role and result of management education stating Globalization has been motivating all of us in management education to do almost everything differently. Strategically, the implications of globalization continue to reveal themselves; a new and fundamentally different global landscape continues to emerge. An endless stream of new opportunities is available for us to rethink the scope of our missions, join forces with other institutions, ?nance our activities, and strengthen the quality and scope of our business schools. The end results of the globalization of management education process should be: 1) Greater competence and con?dence of graduates for doing business with global impact; 2) More research insights into the global complexity of the managers, enterprises, and markets studied; and; 3) Ultimately better service of the global management profession and society at large. XLRI, as an institute, has always had this global outlook since beginning.
Prof. Pranabesh Ray (Dean, Academics), introduced the new batch of students to the accomplished faculty members across different functional streams of management. Prof. Ray also shared XLRIs continual efforts in molding responsible managers with ethical values. He said, XLRI is known for its academic excellence as well as instilling in its students the right values through courses, activities, events and the environment it creates. A unique feature in the first term will be the Village Exposure Programme and the Outbound Programme. Both the programmes have been designed to create awareness among the students of life in rural India, as well as the importance of team spirit. Such an integral and value-based formation will impel the future managers to be innovative, competent and creative leaders.
