IIMA-Harvard Business School tie-up for training Govt officials

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, fulfilling its commitment to contribute and work closely with public institutions as they go through the momentous change of professionalization and upgradation of the capabilities to focus on effective implementation and public service, has tied up with Harvard Business School Executive Education to offer a four-week course to senior government officials in the Department of Income Tax (DIT) in India.

The Programme is a part of Institutes strategy to connect proactively with practitioners through cutting-edge Executive Education Programme. The program is structured as an integrated four week experience in which senior leaders in DIT will spend two weeks at the IIMA campus and two weeks at HBS campus. The objective of the program is to provide DIT leaders with perspective, skills, and insights related to the leadership of a public enterprise, change management in a large organization, and becoming more citizen-centric.

Speaking on the tie up with HBS on July 7, 2014, Professor Ashish Nanda, Director IIM Ahmedabad said One of our key strategic priorities is to connectwith the private sector, but also with public sector institutions, and with internationally renowned business schools. As a Management Institution, we are committed to working with, and learning from, practitioners in a range of sectors, including the public sector. In fact, the public sector might be one area where we can have the most impact at present. Our senior government officials are confronted with gargantuan challenges of implementation that require the best of leadership and change management skills. We hope that this engagement working with Harvard Business School to design and deliver an outstanding program to senior leaders in the Department of Income Tax tailored to their needs and circumstances is the harbinger of many more similar projects with public sector organizations.

Appreciating the move, Das Narayandas, Senior Associate Dean of Publishing and Executive Education said HBS Executive Education is delighted to have the opportunity to partner with IIMA, a leading Indian business school, to serve the leadership development needs of the Department of Income Tax, an esteemed Indian Government organization,

James J Hill Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School also observed We look forward to hosting senior leaders from the Department of Income Tax on our campus in the coming months.
Prof Ajay Pandey, Dean (Programs), IIMA describing the USPs of this programme said Public sector leaders seek to find the right balance between responsiveness and policy enforcement in terms of engaging with the public. In this program, we will explore the appropriate balance between service orientation and policy implementation, and discuss ways to achieve that balance,

Professor Abraham Koshy, Chair (Executive Education) at IIM A expecting more such ties ups in future, said on the occasion We have been making a conscious effort to widen the horizons of our Executive Education Programs and particularly reach out to the public sector. This new initiative is a step in that direction.

Ever since it was set up in 1961, IIM-A has excelled in the field of management education. In last decade or so, IIM-A has evolved from being Indias premier management institute to a notable international school of management in just four decades. Ranked as the No 1 B-school in India, IIM-A excelled in virtually every important parameter of the learning and placement. The B school is virtually the handpick of very best candidates.
Harvard Business School launched its first Executive Education program in 1945 to a group of 60 executives. Since then, the B school has helped business leaders from a diverse mix of backgrounds, industries, and countries advance their skills, careers, and companies.
