For an intake of 44008 students in MBA/MMS 2015-17 batch across Maharashtra B schools, 60363 candidates have registered for MAHCET 2015. It means that for one seat of MBA programme there is just more than one candidate applying for MAHCET 2015.

Not all registered paid also

This registration number may not necessarily mean that all of them have also paid for the MAHCET 2015. There could be many candidates who had registered themselves for MAHCET 2015 but didn’t pay the requisite fee.

Major chunk from Maharashtra

Out of the total number of 60363, share of Maharashtra State candidates registered for MAHCET 2015 is 57910 which is more than 95% of total candidates. Around 85% of seats are meant for Maharashtra state candidates.

Maharashtra has very good B schools with low fee structure and good placements. The fee for MBA/MMS programme in Maharashtra B schools is regulated by ‘Shikshan Shulka Samiti’ which is also indirectly regulated by Government of Maharashtra. The result is that total programme fee comes between Rs.1.5 lakhs to Rs.3 lakhs. The placement is good enough. Even if we leave the top B school like JBIMS aside, the average placement in Maharashtra B schools go well beyond Rs. 4-5 lakhs making Maharashtra MBA/MMS as high ROI programme.

This fact attracts Maharashtra domicile candidates to explore admission opportunity in Maharashtra B schools rather than in a B school situated in any other state. Registering and applying for MAHCET 2015 has sure provided this opportunity which none of the Maharashtra State candidates would like to miss.

All India candidates: Intake more than applications

Intake for Outside Maharashtra State (OMS) Candidates in various MBA/MMS/PGDM programmes across Maharashtra through MAHCET 2015 Centralized Admission Process (CAP) is supposed to be 7000 seats. For the 7000 OMS seats 2453 candidates have applied implying if they prepare well and attempt the MAHCET 2015 to score high, they can get their preferred B school. Nonetheless, they can be assured of their admission to one or other MBA programme in a good B school in Maharashtra.

Actual MAHCET 2015 takers could be less

It is an established practice in all the top MBA entrance exams like CAT/XAT/CMAT that around 10 to 15 percent do not take the test although they register and pay the fee also. Going by the same trend it is very much possible that MAHCET 2015 may not even be taken by 50000 candidates.

Accordingly it may not be necessary that all the registered candidates would appear for the exam, although DTE Maharashtra would have to make due seating arrangement for all of them. In fact Maharashtra B schools will admit students on the basis of Centralized admission process (CAP) conducted by Directorate of technical Education (DTE) Maharashtra after the declaration of MAHCET 2015 result.

Scores of all the National Level tests like CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT are accepted in the CAP round for allocation of B school in Maharashtra in accordance with performance in the respective exam as well as CAP round. To appear in CAP round it is mandatory to register for MAHCET 2015 but taking MAHCET 2015 exam is not necessary.

Number of candidates belonging to Maharashtra or Outside Maharashtra State category with high scores in CAT 2014 exploring admission opportunity in top B schools in Maharashtra may not appear in MAHCET 2015 exam.

37% Girl candidates

Out of 60363 MBA aspirants registered for MAHCET 2015, the ratio of girl candidates is fairly high with 37%. 22232 girl candidates from all categories have registered for MAHCET 2015 which by all means is an indicator of the popularity of MAHCET.

Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Maharashtra, the MAHCET 2015 conducting authority opened the Registration and Application process for MAHCET 2015 for admission to MBA/MMS 2015-17 batch on Feb 18, 2015. The regular process without payment of late registration fee was closed at 5 PM on Feb 27, 2015.

The facility for late registration was provided to the candidates who could not register and apply till Feb 27, 2015. Late registration facility with an additional fee of Rs 1000/- was opened on Feb 28 and with an extended last date was closed on March 3, 2015 at 5 PM.
