8 out of 9 new IIMs participating in CAP 2016 have common shortlisting criteria although the admission policy of IIM Amritsar and IIM Sambalpur is not available in public domain
The minimum required overall percentile is 90 and sectional percentile is 80 in CAT 2015 to qualify for CAP 2016 as announced for the 8 IIMs

Out of 9 new IIMs participating in Common Admission Process 2016 that has already started on February 15, 2016, 8 IIMs have common shortlisting criteria although 2 of them have not made it available on their website.

The 9 participating IIMs in Common Admission Process (CAP) 2016 being coordinated by IIM Kashipur are IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak,  IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Udaipur, IIM BodhGaya, IIM Sambalpur and IIM Amritsar. Except IIM Rohtak, all the 8 IIMs have shortlisted candidates on the basis of same shortlisting criteria. According to the PGP 2016 Admission Notice issued by IIM Kashipur ‘Among the 9 participating IIMs the shortlisting criteria for 8 IIMs, except IIM Rohtak are same’.

Confusion cleared on newest IIMs

Out of the 3 newest IIMs, while IIM BodhGaya has already announced its admission policy & shortlisting criteria for 2016, IIM Amritsar and IIM Sambalpur have not yet announced their respective admission policy and the shortlisting criteria in public domain for admission to PGP 2016-18 batch. Candidates were much confused as they are not aware whether they have qualified to be considered for admission to IIM Amritsar and IIM Sambalpur in CAP 2016.

Now since, the CAP 2016 coordinating IIM Kashipur has clarified that the shortlisting criteria of these 2 IIMs remain the same as that of other 6 participating new IIMs except IIM Rohtak that has different criteria, the confusion has been cleared.

8 IIMs need only CAT 2015 scores
Although you may not be able to view any shortlist announced by IIM Amritsar, IIM BodhGaya and IIM Sambalpur, on their site, but if you are not shortlisted the regret message would be from all the 9 IIMs instead of 6 IIMs and would state “We regret to inform you that you have not been shortlisted by any of the nine participating IIMs in the common admission process.”

While the 8 IIMs have shortlisted the candidates for CAP 2016 taking CAT 2015 score as the sole criteria, IIM Rohtak has also taken into account the academic profile, diversity, gender diversity, work experience as shortlisting criteria. The minimum required overall percentile is 90 to 96 and sectional percentile is 70 to 80 in CAT 2015 to qualify for CAP 2016 as announced for the 8 IIMs. IIM Amritsar and IIM Sambalpur in their first batch admission prescribed a minimum overall percentile of 96.3 which has now been reduced to 90 only.

First stage shortlist by individual IIM
Individual IIMs participating in CAP 2015 have prepared a shortlist based on their shortlisting criteria. These shortlists are combined for further processing by the coordinating IIM Kashipur.

No CAP for those shortlisted by Older IIMs
From the combined list of new IIMs, names of candidates called for interviews by older IIMs namely IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode and IIM Lucknow have been set aside. The remaining candidates have only been called for a Common Personal Interview & Written Analysis Test (PI & WAT).

The PI & WAT scores for candidates set aside from the common shortlist will be obtained from the respective older IIMs, which had shortlisted the candidate for their PI & WAT process. Those who have been called by more than one older IIM will have their PI & WAT scores averaged across the IIMs where they have appeared for interviewing and the same would be used to generating the merit list by IIM Kashipur.

Last date over for Change of CAP centre
CAP 2016 has already started at 5 different centers namely New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai on February 15 and will end on March 4, 2016.  Requests for change of CAP centre should have been sent to Admissions cell/e-mail ID of IIM Kashipur on or before 11th February 2016. Communications of change in the centre, date and/ or time (in such cases where the change requests have been accepted) were sent by e-mail to the relevant candidates by February 12, 2016.

It is not necessary that such requests have been accepted nor the candidates should assume that their change requests would be accepted.  Moreover,  no communication would be sent to candidates whose requests have not been accepted. IIM  Kashipur has suggested that in the meantime, candidates are advised to make arrangements for attending the WAT & PI as per the schedule already communicated to them.

Candidates who sought changes in the centre, date and/ or time of the Written Analysis Test and Personal Interview (WAT & PI) needed to provide sufficient justification in their request. The reasons for seeking such changes have also be considered while taking a decision on allotting changed centres, date and/ or time, which in any case would be subject to availability of slots.

CAP 2016: Final selection by Individual IIM
After the CAP 2016 round is over, each IIM will take the PI & WAT score of the candidates shortlisted by them and combine it with other scores like CAT score, Profile score and any other score to make their own individual merit list to make final offers to the candidates.

Only the PI & WAT are conducted commonly by the 9 new IIMs. The final merit list of candidates will be arrived at by each IIM according to its own selection criteria.

There are many candidates who have scored a high overall percentile between 95 to 99+ in CAT 2015 but their sectional percentile scores are not uniform and in one or other section out of 3 sections in CAT 2015, their scores have gone below 80. This deviation in CAT 2015 percentile score has prompted many IIMs to reduce the requirement of qualifying sectional percentile from 80 to 70. This will help IIMs to shortlist more candidates for CAP 2016 and fulfil their respective intake in their class rooms in 2016-18 batch.
