CAT 2020 Unlikely to be Postponed; Registrations are picking up: CAT Convenor Prof Harshal Lowalekar tells MBAUniverse.com

Common Admission Test (CAT) 2020 for MBA Admission 2021 to IIMs remains unaffected by Covid-19 pandemic. Not only the exam is unlikely to be postponed but also the possibility is that more applicants will apply and appear in CAT exam this year.That’s the message coming from CAT Convenor  Prof Harshal Lowalekar, who shared the latest CAT updates with MBAUniverse.com on August 26.

IIM Indore which is conducting CAT 2020 on November 29, 2020 had released the complete exam schedule with no changes in exam pattern or testing mode and has already started the Registration process for CAT exam on August 5. CAT 2020 applicants are worried with their queries like - whether the exam would be postponed andwill it be held in different testing mode. MBAUniverse.com reached out to CAT 2020 exam convener, Professor Harshal Lowalekar at IIM Indore, to get clarity on these issues.

Responding to the MBAUniverse.com query, if there is any probability that CAT 2020 could be postponed, Prof. Lowalekar said, “As of now we don't see CAT being postponed. Hopefully COVID situation would be much better by the time CAT happens in November.”

Sharing with MBAUniverse.com why CAT 2020 may not be postponed, CAT 2020 convener further added, “There will be lot more clarity and confidence after other national level exams like JEE etc are conducted in the first week of September. Various test conducting agencies have done a fantastic job at their end.”

So, the CAT 2020 applicants should not expect CAT 2020 getting postponed. Besides, with more testing centres this year, there may not be any change in the CAT exam pattern and testing mode. CAT 2020 remains a three hour duration computer based test to be held in 156 cities in two slots on November 29, 2020.

The response from MBA aspirants for CAT 2020 has been encouraging so far, and more and more candidates are applying. In response to MBAUniverse.com query on the response so far in CAT 2020 registration, Prof. Lowalekar said, “The registration is going on as usual like last year.The numbers are picking up now.”

More than 2.4 lakh candidates are expected to apply for CAT 2020. During last three years there is steady rise in number of CAT exam applicants. There were 2.31 lakh applicants in CAT 2017 which increased to 2.41 lakh in CAT 2018 and to 2.44 lakh in CAT 2019. CAT registration process remains open for more than 40 days from August 5 to September 16, 2020. IIM Indore plans to conduct CAT 2020 in a safe environment
