CAT 2022 breaks all previous records in terms of Number and percentage of actual test takers. IIM Bangalore CAT 2022 data of actual test takers reveals that 2.22 lakh of total registered 2.55 lakh candidates took the exam on Nov 27. It comes to 87% which is the highest percentage of CAT test takers during last one decade. This included 35% female, 65% male and 4 transgender. In each of the 3 slots, more than 73 thousand candidates appeared in CAT 2022
CAT 2022 Records Highest 87% Test Takers

IIM Bangalore has released the data of CAT 2022 exam taking number of candidates. It reveals that the number and percentage of CAT 2022 test takers has gone up substantially breaking all the previous record and is the highest in last 10 years. This is a good news as the during last few years number of CAT takers had remained stagnant or had gone down. CAT 2022 exam was successfully conducted by IIM Bangalore on November 27, 2022 in 154 test cities at 293 centers in 3 slots – morning, afternoon and evening. CAT 2022 was rated an easier exam. IIM Bangalore has released the complete slot wise data of CAT 2022 exam taking number of candidates who appeared in CAT 2022 on Nov 27 in a CAT 2022 Media Release. Confirming the number of actual CAT 2022 test takers, IIM Bangalore faculty and convener of CAT 2022 exam, Dr Ashis Mishra has shared, “CAT 2022 was successfully conducted at 293 test centres spread across 154 cities in India on 27 November 2022 in three shifts. Around 2.22 lakh candidates appeared for the exam out of 2.55 lakhs registered eligible candidates. The overall attendance was approximately 87%. Out of the 2.22 lakh candidates taken the exam, 35% were Females, 65% Males and 4 candidates represent Transgender.”

CAT 2022 Actual Test Takers: Key highlights

  • Around 2.22 lakh candidates appeared for the exam out of 2.55 lakhs registered eligible candidates. The overall attendance was approximately 87%.
  • Out of the 2.22 lakh candidates who appeared in CAT 2022, there were:
i)  Percentage of Number of Males Taking CAT 2022: 65%
ii) Percentage of Number of Females Taking CAT 2022: 35%
iii) Number of Transgender Taking CAT 2022: 4 Candidates
  • The duration of the test was of 120 minutes (160 minutes For PwD Candidates).
  • The time allotted for each Section is 40 minutes (53 minutes and 20 seconds for PwD Candidates).

CAT 2022 consisted of  66 questions and was considered as an easier exam. Experts expect 99 percentile in CAT 2022 at a score between 91 and 95 marks.

CAT Registration Trends in last 10 Years
CAT exam registrations have gone up substantially in 2022. Since 2013 to 2019 CAT Registration witnessed steady rise in number of CAT exam applicants from 1.95 lakhs to 2.44 lakhs. This number was reduced to 2.28 lakhs in CAT 2020 due to Covid pandemic. However, the registration number has picked up substantially in CAT 2022 and the final number has gone up to 2.55 lakhs
