No Change in Percentage of CAT 2021 Test Takers: 1.92 Lakh including 35% Women took CAT 2021 – IIM Ahmedabad Releases CAT Data

IIM Ahmedabad CAT 2021 data of actual test takers reveals that the percentage of CAT 2021 Exam Taking Number of candidates remains 83% which is same as that of CAT 2020. According to IIMA, “Around 1.92 lakh candidates appeared for the exam out of 2.30 lakhs registered eligible candidates. The overall attendance was approximately 83%. Out of the 1.92 lakh candidates taken the exam, 35% were Females, 65% Males and 2 candidates represent Transgender.”

IIM Ahmedabad has released the data of CAT 2021 exam taking number of candidates on December 2, 2021 in the CAT 2021 Media Release. It reveals that the percentage of CAT 2021 test takers is the same at 83% out of total registered candidates as was in CAT 2020. So, despite a marginal increase of CAT 2021 registration number which has gone up by 2000 candidates, the number of actual CAT 2021 test takers who appeared for the exam has also gone up by 2000 approximately.  CAT 2021 exam was successfully conducted by IIM Ahmedabad on November 28, 2021 in 156 test cities at 438 centers in 3 slots – morning, afternoon and evening. IIM Ahmedabad has released the complete slot wise data of CAT 2021 exam taking number of candidates who appeared in CAT 2021 on Nov 28 in a CAT 2021 Media Release. Confirming the number of actual CAT 2021 test takers, IIM Ahmedabad faculty and convener of CAT 2021 exam, Prof M P Ram Mohan has shared, “Around 1.92 lakh candidates appeared for the exam out of 2.30 lakhs registered eligible candidates. The overall attendance was approximately 83%. Out of the 1.92 lakh candidates taken the exam, 35% were Females, 65% Males and 2 candidates represent Transgender.”

CAT 2021 Actual Test Takers: Key highlights

  • Around 1.92 lakh candidates appeared for the exam out of 2.30 lakhs registered eligible candidates. The overall attendance was approximately 83%.
  • Out of the 1.92 lakh candidates who appeared in CAT 2021, there were:

i)  Percentage of Number of Males Taking CAT 2021: 65%

ii) Percentage of Number of Females Taking CAT 2021: 35%

iii) Number of Transgender Taking CAT 2021: 2 Candidates

  • The duration of the test was of 120 minutes (160 minutes For PwD Candidates).
  • The time allotted for each Section is 40 minutes (53 minutes and 20 seconds for PwD Candidates).

According to IIM Ahmedabad, “CAT centre and its delivery partner Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Limited had taken measures to ensure implementation of Covid-19 advisory of the Government of India and State Governments on social distancing and other preventive/protective measures at the examination centres.”

CAT 2021 consisted of  66 questions instead of 76 last year and was considered as an easier exam. Experts expect 99 percentile in CAT 2021 at a score between 97 and 100 marks.

CAT Registration Trends in last 10 Years
CAT exam registrations have gone up substantially in last few years. Since 2013 to 2019 CAT Registration witnessed steady rise in number of CAT exam applicants from 1.95 lakhs to to 2.44 lakhs. This number was reduced to 2.28 lakhs in CAT 2020 due to Covid pandemic. However, the registration number has picked up marginally in CAT 2021 and the final number has gone up to 2.30 lakhs – 2000+ more than the last year.
