IIFT to Launch New Campus at Kakinada in 2021
IIFT is planning to launch its third campus at Kakinanda (Andhra Pradesh) in the academic session 2021-23 with an intake of 40 to 60 students. This will add to the overall size of IIFT MBA (IB) 2021-23 batch.

According to Prof Pant, “Due to COVID crisis, the issues regarding the infrastructure of the Kakinada Campus have been delayed and the Centre is yet to start. In the next academic year beginning 2021 we hope to start an off-campus site at the JNTU with limited intake of 40 to 60 students. This however depends on all the infrastructure for new temporary campus to be ready on time. The discussions on the infrastructure is still in progress.”

IIFT will be functioning from its premises in Kakinada subject to clearance from regulatory authorities. A plot of about 25 acres has been allotted to IIFT by Government of Andhra Pradesh in Kakinada. In 2018, the first new program M.A. (Economics) was launched and already the Economics department is rated among top 20 departments in India. With new hiring process we expect the ranking to go upto top 15 by next year.”

Launch of MA Economics program is in line with the thrust of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, says Prof Pant, “We at IIFT welcome the new Education Policy, NEP as announced by the Government. As and when it is notified, we are also discussing methods of expanding into new courses/departments. In line with Government’s digital outreach, we also have taken note of the recent UGC notifications regarding online courses and hope to launch some of them in the coming years.”
