IIFT holds 58th Convocation; Union Commerce Minister Shri Piyush Goyal highlights today’s VUCA World; 709 Students Graduate

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) held its 58th Convocation on September 10, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The ceremony was graced by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, as the Chief Guest, and presided over by Shri Sunil Barthwal, Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Chancellor, IIFT. Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Vice Chancellor, IIFT, highlighted IIFT’s growing global engagement through collaborations with leading international universities, and IIFT’s Dubai campus expansion. Degrees were conferred to 709 graduating students of IIFT’s flagship MBA (International Business), MBA (Business Analytics), MA (Economics), Ph.D., and Executive Programmes.

We are living in a VUCA World: Shri Piyush Goyal 
The world today is witnessing volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity — the “VUCA” world, said the Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Shri Piyush Goyal while addressing the Convocation Ceremony. Congratulating the graduating class of 2025, the Minister said India’s destiny lies in the capable hands of its youth to lead India towards Viksit Bharat 2047.

Citing India’s strong macroeconomic fundamentals, low inflation, and fastest-growing large economy status, Shri Goyal highlighted the increasing global interest in India, with over 2,500 international companies already present in the country. He said this unprecedented opportunity places the destiny of the nation in the capable hands of the youth.

Extending his congratulations to the 709 graduating students, the Minister said that while awards and honours are an encouragement, life offers everyone ample opportunities to prove their worth through hard work and excellence. He expressed confidence that every student graduating from IIFT would emerge as a winner in the real world.

Shri Goyal reiterated Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of self-reliance in technology — from operating systems to cybersecurity and deep tech to artificial intelligence. He said India must secure primacy in technology globally and make the nation proud.

Synergy between Academia, Industry, and Government is Key: Shri Sunil Barthwal
In his presidential address, Shri Sunil Barthwal emphasized the synergy between academia, industry, and government in advancing India’s trade agenda. He addressed the gathering and lauded IIFT’s pioneering role in trade and business education. 

He commended the triangle of IIFT, the Centre for Research in International Trade (CRIT), and the Centre for WTO Studies for their collective impact in training and empowering Indian business professionals to compete on the world stage. 

IIFT moving towards Global Excellence: Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Vice Chancellor, IIFT, said, “IIFT has made rapid progress in the past year. Our students secured excellent placements in 2025, and in 2024 IIFT was ranked No. 1 globally for Networking in LinkedIn’s Top 100 MBA Programmes in the World. With the upcoming launch of our Dubai campus, IIFT is moving steadily towards global excellence and impact.”

Prof. Joshi also highlighted IIFT’s growing global engagement through collaborations with leading universities across Europe and Asia. He further commended IIFT’s impactful research contributions, which continue to earn recognition both in India and abroad.
