Dr Rishikesha T. Krishnan is the new director of IIM Bangalore. The Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) have appointed Dr Krishnan as the new Director of this prestigious IIM. Dr Krishnan will take charge on July 31, following the superannuation of the present Director, Professor G. Raghuram. Known as a thought leader in Innovation Management, Dr. Krishnan has served as Director of IIM Indore.

Announcing the appointment, Dr Devi Shetty, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIM Bangalore, said: “We are delighted to have Professor Rishikesha Krishnan as IIMB’s Director. As a well-regarded faculty member of IIMB and a proven administrator during his term as Director of IIM Indore, Professor R.T. Krishnan combines academic and administrative excellence. Under his leadership, IIM Bangalore is sure to set impressive standards in innovation and technology.”

Responding to the announcement, Dr Krishnan said: “It is an extraordinary privilege to lead India’s best management institution, IIM Bangalore, at this most challenging time when there is an opportunity to re-define management education.”

During January 2014 to December 2018, Dr Krishnan led IIM Indore as the Director. He spearheaded the initiatives that resulted in International Accreditation by AACSB and AMBA and improvement in NIRF Ranking.

Dr Krishnan’s main areas of interest are Strategy and Innovation. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Advanced Study of India, University of Pennsylvania (Fall 2008), and at the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad (2011-12). He also held the Jamuna Raghavan Chair in Entrepreneurship at IIMB from 2007-10.

Dr Krishnan has many publications including books, papers in refereed journals, conference papers, articles in the popular press, case studies, book chapters and working papers. His first book ‘From Jugaad to Systematic Innovation: The Challenge for India’ was published in February 2010. His second book, ‘8 Steps to Innovation: Going from Jugaad to Excellence (co-authored with Vinay Dabholkar)’ was published in 2013.

Congratulating Dr Krishnan on his appointment, Professor Raghuram said: “I am certain that IIMB will benefit from his excellent scholarship, and administrative and people skills. I am particularly delighted, on a personal note, to be handing over office to my former student.”

IIM Bangalore is an autonomous, standalone management school and not part of any university. It was established in 1973 by the Government of India through the creation of an IIMB Society which is the legal entity behind the institution. The school works within the national policy guidelines established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It is amongst the top management schools in India and Asia according to several rankings. In 2013, IIMB was re-accredited by European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS).

IIMB is the first B-School in Asia to sign an agreement with Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) to distribute faculty teaching cases. IIMB has also entered into a partnership with Richard Ivey School of Business to co-brand and distribute faculty-authored cases globally.
