Pune, the Oxford of the East, gets an IIM
Pune is widely recognized as the educational hub in India, and a leading manufacturing and IT hub, and offers an ideal setting for a premier management institute. While there are some reputed management institutions like Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development (SCMHRD) and Flame University, the city doesn’t have an IIM yet. With the new IIM Nagpur Pune campus, the city will attract top talent from across the nation, fostering opportunities in education, research, and entrepreneurship.
The IIM Nagpur Pune campus will strengthen India’s management education ecosystem, create high-value opportunities, and contribute significantly to the region’s economic and intellectual growth.
Apart from offering full time MBA programmes, IIM Nagpur Pune campus is expected to emerge as a hub for executive education in the region. “We will introduce a variety of programs designed to cater to professionals across corporate sectors and government organizations at the IIM Nagpur Pune campus,” said Dr Metri.
IIM Nagpur was established in 2015 under the mentorship of IIM Ahmedabad with a temporary campus. The institute shifted to a 132-acre campus in the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) in November 2021. The new campus was formally inaugurated by President of India Ram Nath Kovind on May 8, 2022. IIM Nagpur was ranked 31 among management schools in India by the NIRF Ranking 2024 and was ranked 26 by MBAUniverse.com Rankings 2025.
