IIM Raipur has inaugurated its diverse and large 13th PGP 2022-24 batch of 331 students by organizing two days orientation program from 4th July to 5th July, 2022. The incoming batch represents 25 states and comprises 62% female students and 64% Non Engineers. On the occasion students of the incoming batch got an opportunity to interact with experts from academia, corporate leaders, bureaucrats, politicians, entrepreneurs and other eminent leaders of real life
IIM Raipur MBA 2022-24 Batch Profile

IIM Raipur welcomed its diverse 13th Batch of 331 students in Post Graduate Programme in Management and 8th Batch of Fellow Programme in Management and 11th Batch of Executive Fellow Programme in Management. On the occasion IIM Raipur organized two day Orientation programme on 4th & 5th July 2022.

The students of the incoming batch got an opportunity to interact with experts from academia, corporate leaders, bureaucrats and other eminent leaders of real life. The inaugural address was delivered by Smt. Shyamala Gopinathan, BoG, Chairperson, IIM Raipur. She congratulated the students for securing admission in a top tier institute of India. Prof. Ramkumar Kakani, Director, IIM Raipur, Prof. Gopal Kumar, Chairperson-PGP; Prof. Mohit Goswami, Chairperson, Admissions; Prof. Yogesh Chauhan, Chairperson (Doctoral Programme) welcomed the students of new batch. On behalf of Prof. Kamla K Jain, Dean - Academics, IIM Raipur, Prof. Sanjeev Prashar, Professor - Marketing, IIM Raipur presented the welcome address. On the occasion, there was a lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries, a melodious Saraswati Vandana and IIM Raipur theme song by the PGP 2nd year students.

Presenting the batch profile of PGP class, Prof. Goswami, shared that IIM Raipur showed a continued push toward diversity & inclusivity with 62% female candidates in a batch strength of 331. Around 36% of candidates are engineering graduates; 26% are commerce graduates, and the remainder come from different disciplines such as management, science, etc. More than half of the batch has a work experience of an average of 27 months. IIM Raipur values unity in diversity and has a representation of students coming from 25 states of the country.

To give the incoming batch a flavour of Corporate life and to motivate them with real life experiences, IIM Raipur conducted two day Orientation programme in which experts and leaders from Academia, Corporate and other sectors were invited. Some of the eminent speakers included Vipul Sabharwal, Managing Director, Luminous Power; Nagaraju Sada, Global HR Head - HR Technology and Organization Effectiveness (UPL); Aneesh Ajayan, Manager - Performance Improvement, EY; Dr Lokesh Kumar AIIMS Raipur; Manoj K Prasad, Vice President - Talent Development & Digital Transformation, Reliance Industries; Ms. Shilpa S Santwani, Managing Director, State Street Corporate; Anurag Tripathi, Vice President - Operations, Info Edge India; Rakesh Sinha, National head- Acquisition , Senior Executive Vice President, Kotak Mahindra; Dr. R Balasubramaniam, Member (Human Resources), Capacity Building Commission, Government Of India; Shri Mrityunjoy Sharma, a first generation politician and entrepreneur.  

Day-1 Orientation
Dr. R Balasubramaniam, Member (Human Resources), Capacity Building Commission, Government of India greeted the students of the incoming batch. Appreciating the campus infrastructural facilities at IIM Raipur, he shared with the fresh business students that the business world is misinterpreted as being an evil world. Since business is an integral part of life, one can sustain and make it fair by learning to disrupt, innovate and lead. He mentioned that University education can only become relevant if students are the drivers of energy within the learning environment. He urged the students to co-create the learning process, switching to the ‘phygital’ mode of learning. Phygital mode is a combination of the brick and mortar model with the digital mode of learning. Creation of learning resources is not only the responsibility of the teachers but also of the students.

Shri Mrityunjoy Sharma, a first generation politician and entrepreneur conducted a brief session on ‘The Road More Traveled.’ He is an engineering graduate from BIT Mesra, Ranchi and an MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur and has worked in an advisory role to the then Chief Minister, Dr. Raman Singh on developmental issues and has co-founded biofie.com which helps to ease the internal recruitment process through a novel product. He encouraged the students to move to the grassroot level, find their passion, and follow the same.

Day-2 Orientation
The second and final day of IIM Raipur’s orientation program provided the students of new batch, an exposure to the corporate world. The Day started with a panel discussion, moderated by Prof. Sanjeev Prashar, professor - Marketing, IIM Raipur on the topic, ‘India’s $5 Trillion Economy: Economic way out’ in order to familiarize the students with the current requirements of the corporate world. The students were privileged to have inputs from the industry stalwarts which included

Mr. Vipul Sabharwal, Managing Director, Luminous Power, who shared that one should always exude genuine warmth and respect for everyone to be a transformational leader

Mr. Nagaraju Sada, Global HR Head - HR Technology and Organization Effectiveness (UPL), highlighted the technology's ongoing and forward-thinking development, which is making it simpler to navigate the most recent obstacles posed in the post-pandemic environment in the area of human resource management.

Mr. Aneesh Ajayan, Manager - Performance Improvement, EY emphasized that understanding the competitors, who to hire, and local customs are necessary for survival of businesses paving the way for India’s economic growth.

Dr. Lokesh Kumar from AIIMS Raipur held discussion on health and wellness. He guided the students through maintaining equipoise between physical and mental health.

The second panel discussion was held post lunch on the topic, “Getting Ready for day Zero.” The panel was moderated by Prof. Jagrook Dawra, Professor - Marketing, IIM Raipur.

Mr Manoj K Prasad, Vice President - Talent Development & Digital Transformation, Reliance Industries, emphasized on not just being oblivious but active in observing the business ecosystem.

Ms. Shilpa S Santwani, Managing Director, State Street Corporate, pointed to the significance of advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives in the organization. She also shared the mantra she believes in, that is “Challenge the status quo, Look for the Big Picture, Embrace change”.

Mr. Anurag Tripathi, Vice President - Operations, Info Edge India, urged the students to upskill themselves to be able to manage change, achieve excellence, and drive their team towards a successful outcome.

Mr. Rakesh Sinha, National head- Acquisition , Senior Executive Vice President, Kotak Mahindra said that organizations should reorient their mindset into a remote information exchanging scenario.

Prof. R. K. Jana , Chairperson, Student Affairs, IIM Raipur illuminated the students about ‘Responsible Living at IIM Raipur’. He asked the students to take responsibility for their own deeds, so as to make their MBA journey fruitful & enriching. Experiential activities were conducted with the objective of ‘Inclusion’ to embrace the existence of diversity among students. The session was conducted by Prof. Damini Saini, Chairperson - SAKSHAM, IIM Raipur and Ms. Maneesha Sharma, Director, Sankalp Sanskritik Samiti. Finally the valedictory note was given by Prof. Kamal K Jain, Dean - Academics, IIM Raipur. The new batch is now inspired and ready to take on the challenges and rigor demanded by a B-school.

IIM Raipur was set up by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2010 at Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh is one of the fastest growing states of India with its rich mineral, forest, natural and local resources. IIM Raipur has shifted to its new campus located over 200 acres of land allotted to it by the Government of Chhattisgarh at Naya Raipur.
