IIM Trichy will release shortlist in the last week of January 2020 for Common Admission Process (CAP) 2020. CAP is the final selection process and comprises Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The process is common to all new IIMs which are participating in CAP. IIM Trichy has reduced the CAT 2019 score cut offs by 20 points for Reserved Category in shortlisting. A 50% weight to CAT score will be awarded in final selection

IIM Tiruchirappalli is expected to release the shortlist for admission to its 10th PGPM Batch 2020-22 in the last week of January 2020 for Common Admission Process (CAP).  CAP is the final selection process and comprises Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The process is common to IIMs which are participating in CAP 2020 which is coordinated by IIM Ranchi.  

More than 2000 candidates are expected to be shortlisted by IIM Trichy as the institute has increased the intake to 240 students.  IIM Tiruchirappalli shortlisting criteria award high weightage to CAT 2019 score and candidate’s profile.

The admission process at IIM Trichy is based on CAT 2019 score, shortlist for Personal Appearance (PA), conduct of common PI & WAT round for participating IIMs and final admission offer.

IIM Tiruchirappalli Shortlisting Criteria
IIM Trichy has reduced the CAT score cut offs drastically for reserved category candidates in the shortlisting criteria for admission 2020. IIM Tiruchirappalli has made minor changes in its Admission Criteria 2020 for the flagship 2 years full time Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) MBA programme.

IIM Tiruchippalli Admission 2020: Highlights & Key Changes in Shortlisting Criteria

  • More than 2000 candidates will be shortlisted by IIM Trichy
  • CAT 2019 Cut off is 95 percentile for PGP 2020 General category Shortlist
  • CAT 2019 sectional cut off for each of the 3 sections is 80 percentile for General category

IIM Tiruchippalli Shortlisting Process
IIM  Trichy will announce the shortlist of candidates for Personal Appearance (PA) round which is CAP round. It will use CAT 2019 percentile score for shortlisting candidates for PI & WAT:

  • The shortlisting for final selection round in IIM Trichy Admission Criteria awards 100% weight to CAT 2019 score.
  • The general candidate must have scored minimum sectional percentile of 80 in each of the three sections of CAT 2019 – Quantitative Aptitude' (QA), ‘Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning' (DILR) and ‘Verbal and Reading Comprehension' (VRC)
  • A general category candidate must have scored minimum overall percentile of 95 in CAT 2019
  • If the candidate does not score minimum prescribed percentile in CAT 2019, he/she will not be considered for shortlisting for final selection stage.
  • All the Candidates shortlisted for PI-WAT process will have to attend both WAT and PI which will be a common process for all the participating IIMs

IIM Tiruchirappalli Cut Off  
IIM Trichy Cut off 2020 has been liberalised for admission 2020 for the reserved category candidates. Only the candidates above the minimum cut-offs in the CAT 2019 sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2019 are considered for shortlisting.

The table below indicates the minimum performance expected from candidates to be shortlisted for the PI & WAT. However, achieving the cut-off percentile in CAT is a necessary but not sufficient condition for being shortlisted by IIM Trichy.

The actual cut-off percentiles for the 2020 batch may be higher. IIM Tiruchirappalli decided the number of candidates to be called for the PI & WAT for each category, depending on which the cut off percentiles can also change.

IIM Trichy: Encouraging Diversity
To encourage diversity in the batch, differential weightage shall be applied to different disciplines:

Step by Step Admission Process
Following steps are included in the IIM Tiruchirapplli Admission process:

  • Step 1: The candidate must have appeared and scored the minimum required sectional and overall percentile in CAT 2019, a major component for Shortlisting candidates for CAP 2020. Category wise short-lists of the candidates are prepared for Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT-2019 score, who have applied to the programme at the time of submitting the CAT 2019 application form and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme of IIM Trichy.
  • Step 2: Shortlisted Candidates have to attend Common Admission Process (CAP) 2020 for the participating IIMs. CAP 2020 will begin in February 2020 and will consist of  both PI & WAT round in final selection process. Candidates not meeting the minimum performance in PI & WAT will not be considered for the final selection. The PI-WAT would be conducted at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. The exact date for PI & WAT will be communicated to the shortlisted candidates by IIM Ranchi which is coordinating CAP for 2020-22 batch on behalf of other participating IIMs.
  • Step 3: After the WAT & PI round, admission offers are made by IIM Trichy to successful candidates. The final selection is based on composite score of the candidates. This includes performance in CAT, performance in WAT & PI, academics, work experience, diversity among others. Category wise merit list will be generated based on weightages awarded to various components. 
  • Step 4: Final Admission Offer will be made to the candidates in the last week of April 2020 on the basis of Final Merit Score and will be available on IIM Tiruchirappalli website. 

You can expect to get admission in PGP 2020 at IIM Trichy with a CAT 2019 percentile of 92 and above, provided you fulfil other desired parameters for the B-school.

IIM Trichy: Campuses at Trichy & Chennai
IIM Trichy has two campuses. The main campus is at Tiruchirappalli which offers flagship 2 years full time Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM). The Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) is recognized as equivalent to a Master’s Degree of an Indian University for the purpose of admission to higher studies, Association of Indian Universities.

The other campus of IIM Trichy is at Chennai that offers Post Graduate Programme in Business Management (PGPBM). The PGPBM is meant for working professionals only and the classes are conducted on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

IIM Trichy Moves to New Campus
IIM Trichy has moved to its newly built 175 acre permanent campus with world class amenities. The new campus was inaugurated on April 3, 2017 by the Union HRD Minister Mr Prakash Javadekar.

The new campus is built on the land area of 175 acres at a cost of Rs.772 crores and was constructed in a record 30 months. It is located at Trichy-Pudukkottai road near Chinna Suriyur village. The Hostels at Campus can accommodate 400 students and include staff and faculty residences as well as recreation club. Class rooms are designed to offer learning with an open mind. Three types of class rooms with a capacity of 25 students each, 50 students each and 80 students each have been created

IIM Tiruchirappalli inaugurated its 9th PGPM batch on June 24, 2019 with 235 students admitted to its flagship two-year full-time PGPM  programme – Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP). The inauguration ceremony also witnessed the launch of the 7th batch of the doctoral programme – Fellow Programme in Management (FPM).
