VGSoM- IIT Kharagpur MBA Final Placement 2019: Student Gets Rs.20.5 LPA Salary; 123 students receive 139 offers

The first MBA college among IITs, Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM), IIT Kharagpur has registered highly successful placement season for the MBA batch 2017-19 with a rise in highest salary, number of PPOs as well as recording a higher lowest salary. The two-year MBA at IIT Kharagpur is a full-time residential course for graduates aspiring to choose a career in management. This Programme is one of the highly ranked  MBA programmes in India.

The MBA Placement 2019 at IIT Kharagpur - Vantage2018-19, witnessed 53 companies  offering 139 full time offers to a batch of 123 students participating in placement process.  VGSoM saw a rise of 35% in the number of Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) which have been offered to 31 students this year.  The highest salary has gone up to Rs.20.5 lakhs while the lowest salary has also remained high enough at Rs. 9.07 lakhs.

Releasing the interim final Placement Report 2019, IIT Kharagpur has shared, ‘With several eminent recruiters slated to visit our campus in the days to come, the rise in current placement statistics is all but guaranteed.’ Accordingly, it is expected that the highest and average salary in Placement 2019 at VGSoM - IIT Kharagpur will go up further.

VGSoM-IIT Kharagpur final placement 2019 season witnessed 53 recruiters visiting the institute to offer diverse roles in numerous departments such as Consulting, Analytics, Sales & Marketing, Operations, Finance among others. 

Key Placement Trends
Number of recruiters at VGSoM-IIT Kharagpur final placement 2019 has gone up to 53, witnessing a rise of 29%. Total offers have gone up to 139 including PPOs, recording a rise of 24% over last year.

The average salary for top 50% batch rose to Rs.15.5 lakhs with the median going up to Rs.15 lakhs. For the top 25% batch average salary stood at Rs.17 lakhs with median remaining at Rs.16.15 lakhs.

Top Recruiters
The season saw the presence of many leading organizations including, Accenture, Bloomberg, Amazon, CRISIL, Deloitte, EY, ebay, clicklabs, Capital First, Genpact, Ford, PwC, IBM, J P Morgan Chase, HSBC, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HALMA, MAQ Software, Mu Sigma, Novartis, OYO, TITAN, TATA Power, Trafigura, Vedanta, Virtusa, Wipro, ZS among others who offered the students prestigious roles. 

Sectoral Placement
Consulting remained the top recruiting sector with 24% contribution. Closely following was the Analytics with 22% contribution in Placement. Operations & Retail contributed 17% share in Placement 2019 while Sales & Marketing contributed 13% share followed by Finance & HR with 12%. IT/ITES contributed 7% share and General Management had a share of 5%.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) is the flagship programme of VGSoM-IIT Kharagpur. It is a full time four semester 2 years residential programme. The programme is meant for graduate engineers, Master’s degree holders in Science, Economics and Commerce who wish to pursue Management career in India or abroad.

Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) was set up as the first school of Management among the IITs in 1993. VGSoM was established with an aim to develop managers with a strong technological background. VGSoM was launched following the model of Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) USA.

Apart from flagship MBA, VGSoM offers Doctoral Programme (PhD) in Management, Executive MBA at the IIT Kharagpur campus in Kolkata and IIT Bhubaneswar campus.

VGSoM has tied up with the Royal Danish Embassy, Dhaka in 2000 to provide Management Development Programmes for mid-level managers in Bangladesh and since then VGSoM has been regularly organizing MDPs and seminars to cater to various industry needs.
