IMC Awards 2021 Theme: The Right MBA Class Mix
Getting the Class-Mix right is one of the biggest challenges for a B-school. First challenge is to secure enough demand of candidates. Then comes the second challenge of framing admission policy and criteria for selecting students that fit the distinctiveness of the B-school. Finally, the impact of this class mix on student outcomes must be assessed. IMC invited B-schools to share details on Initiatives taken to attract students that meet the desired profile, Steps taken to develop a robust Admission Policy and Criteria and Impact Assessment of the Initiatives.

IMC 2021 Gold Winner: Goa Institute of Management
Goa Institute of Management won the Gold for the case title – “GIM ‘LEADS’: Lookup for Exploratory Analysts in Data Science: Evolving search towards the right class mix of data-savvy management students.” The winning presentation was made by Dr R Rathish Bhatt, Chair PGDM (BDA), Goa Institute of Management, Goa elaborating the background and challenges that led to this initiative. GIM traditionally attracted a good diverse mix of students but the launch of PGDM (Big Data Analytics) in 2018, made the B-school face the challenge of  retaining the class mix and diversity expected out of a management course. The PGDM (BDA) admissions strategy (LEADS) was conceptualized to ensure diversity amongst the target set.

IMC 2021 Silver Winner: Jaipuria Institute of Management
Jaipuria Institute won the Silver Award for the Case Title “Learners’ Community Mix Approach (LCMA): Jaipuria’s Tryst with Mission Driven Student Mix” and the presentation was made by Dr Prabhat Pankaj, Director, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur.

Jaipuria’s mission mandates ‘learner-centricity’ in student mix which is purely driven by the learners’ community mix approach emanating from the mission statement. This has allowed Jaipuria to address several challenges which a B-school generally finds difficult to address. The challenge also included ‘How to leverage students from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities’ as large chunk of application for admissions from aspirants born, brought up and educated from a small town are received. Since the B-school often presents rigorous mix of learning methodology and necessitates the learners to be highly engaged and motivated, it poses a serious challenge as to create right kind of immersive environment for all such learners. The learning community mix with a well-designed learners’ progression program helped Jaipuria to overcome this challenge very well.
