SPJIMR set for complete reopening soon; to leverage Technology for Hybrid classes
To avoid disruption in student learning, SPJIMR Mumbai has reopened its hostels for both 1st year and 2nd year students, and is all set to start “in-person classes in hybrid mode soon”. Here are important updates from SPJIMR regarding their reopening plans.
SPJIMR Reopening Status
SPJIMR has not yet reopened its campus for regular in-person classes as the B-school was waiting for a notification from the Maharashtra Government. However, to support student learning (particularly of students who had internet connectivity issues), SPJIMR had opened its hostels for students to live and continue their studies and participate in placement related activities.

|
SPJIMR allowed 1st year students to come in small batches and reside in the hostel from January 2021. However, Classes are online as of now.
|
2nd year Students
|
Yes, fromNovember 2020
|
To facilitate Placements & other important activities, SPJIMR allowed 2nd year students to be on campus. However, Classes continue being online.
|
During this time, SPJIMR took a lot of precautions, such as:
- Students had to submit medical reports of blood test and Covid test which is vetted by the medical practitioners approved by the Institute. They are allowed to come to campus only after this process.
- On arrival, students are kept in quarantine for 14 days in a separate quarantine facility.
- On completing the quarantine period, students are allowed to go to their allotted rooms.
- They are required to follow guidelines on safety such as, wearing of mask and following social distancing while on the campus.
- They have been strictly advised to stay on campus and observe all precautionary steps, to ensure everyone’s safety.
Now that Government of Maharashtra has issued notification that the campus can be opened for in-person classes from 15th February 2021, following the necessary guidelines, SPJIMR is planning to start with Hybrid classes soon. Responding to an MBAUniverse.com query on campus reopening and mode of instruction, SPJIMR said, “Now that the Maharashtra Government has permitted colleges to reopen, we will be starting hybrid classes soon. SPJIMR is investing in technology enabled hybrid classrooms keeping in mind social distancing requirements.”
When asked what are Hybrid Classes and how they are implemented, SPJIMR responded, "Such classrooms are technologically enabled to help faculty teach students who are attending the class sitting in the classroom and as well as remotely. It is an investment we are prepared to make, since student learning can't be compromised" and added further. "This will mean our faculty will undergo training to manage 2 sets of students - in the class and remote. Our faculty have been very adaptive and are more than happy to learn new ways of teaching as long as student learning isn't compromised. Parallely, we are investing in technology to give the best experience to both students and faculty."
Final Placements 2021
SPJIMR was amongst the first B-schools to complete 100% Placement 2021. Consulting emerged as the top recruiting sector with offers rolled out to 36 per cent of the batch of 233 participants. This was the first time the final placements process was conducted online. The average annual salary (cost-to-company) stood at INR 25.86 lakhs per annum, which is similar to the levels reported last year. The median annual salary came in at INR 25 lakhs per annum, with over 26 percent of the batch securing offers in excess of INR 30 lakhs per annum, and over 80 percent in excess of INR 20 lakhs per annum. One of the highlights of SPJIMR Placements 2021 was that around 50 per cent of the batch bagged PPO/PPI opportunities through the autumns internship and corporate competitions with leading corporates like Amazon, Boston Consulting Group, Colgate-Palmolive, Hindustan Unilever, Procter & Gamble and Tata Administrative Services among others.
