MDI Murshidabad has a new Director. Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi Ranjan, an academic leader with over three decades of experience in university leadership, teaching, research and international collaborations, has taken charge as MDI Murshidabad Director. Announcing the appointment, MDI Murshidabad welcomed her as “an accomplished academic leader, researcher, and institution builder” and said it looks forward to “her visionary leadership as MDI Murshidabad continues its journey of excellence.” The institute also placed on record its appreciation for Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Sahay, Director, MDI Gurgaon, who held additional charge as Director, MDI Murshidabad during the transition.
Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi Ranjan has been appointed Director, MDI Murshidabad. The institute confirmed the appointment in its official announcement, opening with the line “A New Chapter Begins at MDI Murshidabad” and welcoming her formally to the role.
In its announcement, MDIM said she “brings a wealth of experience in higher education, academic administration, research, innovation, and international collaborations.” The institute extended its best wishes to her “for a successful tenure.”
Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi Ranjan is a higher education leader, institution builder, researcher and academic strategist with more than 31 years of experience spanning university leadership, teaching, research, consulting and international collaborations. She holds a PhD in Computer Science, and her career has progressed from research and teaching into senior institutional leadership as leading institutions such as Sharda University.
Prof. Jayanthi Ranjan’s leadership record is built around institution building. As per the profile shared by the institute, she has established university governance frameworks, strengthened regulatory compliance, implemented NEP 2020 on the ground, created multidisciplinary schools and centres of excellence, driven digital transformation, and built global academic and industry partnerships.
Prof. Ranjan has also led curriculum and academic reform. Her focus areas include Outcome-Based Education (OBE), interdisciplinary curricula, AI-enabled learning, alignment with Viksit Bharat 2047 goals, research and innovation ecosystems, and student-centric initiatives covering employability, wellness and holistic development.
Before this appointment, Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Sahay, Director, MDI Gurgaon, served as Director (Additional Charge), MDI Murshidabad. MDIM has thanked him for what it called his dedicated stewardship of the campus during the interim period.
In its announcement, the institute said his “guidance, commitment, and unwavering support during this important phase have helped strengthen the institute and ensured its continued progress,” and extended its “heartfelt gratitude” to him for his leadership and service.
Prof. Sahay continues as Director, MDI Gurgaon.
MDI Murshidabad is the second campus of the MDI system, set up under the patronage of the MDI Society, which also runs MDI Gurgaon. The foundation stone of the Murshidabad campus was laid on 31 October 2010 at Jangipur, Murshidabad, West Bengal, by Late Shri Pranab Mukherjee, then Union Finance Minister. The campus began academic operations in 2014, with the first PGDM batch of 2014-16 comprising 19 students. It is one of the newer entrants among the top MBA colleges in India.
