Due to disruption caused by the COVID-19, MBA & PGDM Admission 2020 process has been delayed. To streamline, on May 1, regulatory body AICTE issued a notification with revised Academic Calendar 2020, Online Classes and Fee guidelines for B-schools. Read more. So, how are leading B-schools planning to complete their Admissions, and when are they planning to start new batch? To answer these queries with authentic information, is interviewing Official Spokespersons from leading B-schools.

For this article, published on May 6, 2020, we interviewed Prof. Kedar Joshi, Chairperson – Admissions, TAPMI, Manipal to check detail of its latest Admission Status, Fees and more. Prof Joshi has shared with that TAPMI has decided to reduce PGDM fee to comply fully with AICTE guidelines. It has also relaxed fee payment deadlines. Q: Please tell us the current status of Admission 2020 process at TAPMI?
We have completed our Admissions process in March 2020, and released the Merit Lists for all programmes subsequently.

Q: Have you declared final Admission List?
We have released partial results so far and could not release Waitlist due to lockdown in our region.

Q: So, what steps should your selected students take like fee submission?
A candidate pay INR 70,000 (Part A) within the stipulated Deadline 1 and subsequently INR 6,70,000 (Part B) within the stipulated Deadline 2. Based on current guidelines in the context of lockdown deadlines for INR 70,000 is May 19, 2020 and for INR 6,70,000 is May 30, 2020.

Usually candidates opt for the educational loan process for the payment of INR 6,70,000 to minimize financial burden. We are assisting candidates in bank loan process.

Q: Please share your Fee details, last date to submit, and refund process?
A: The total tuition fee payable for the two-year PGDM Programme is INR 14,30,000. This is lower than the fee of Rs 14,60,000 that we had announced last year as part of Admission 2020 brochure. This downward revision in the first year Tuition fee is being done in accordance with the AICTE circular dated May 1, 2020 where AICTE has advised B-schools not to increase fee this year.

Based on current guidelines in the context of lockdown deadlines for INR 70,000 is May 19, 2020 and for INR 6,70,000 is May 30, 2020.

A candidate can withdraw at any point before July 25, 2020. Typical refund process takes 45 days from the date a candidate submits a specific proforma provided by TAPMI for refund process. TAPMI retains only INR 1,000 and refunds remaining amount as per standard AICTE guidelines.

Q: So, when are you planning to start the new batch?
We are planning to start on August 1, 2020.

Q: Will you start with Online classes?
According to MHRD guidelines, TAPMI will start new batch with Online classes. We intend to use WebEx platform for the same.

Q: To close, will you like to share any other details with MBA Aspirants?

50 Scholarships Worth Rs.2.5 Crores
50 scholarships to the tune of Rs.2.5 crores are offered to the different categories of the students including the candidates who have scored 90+ percentile in CAT/XAT; who have low family income and to the top ten performers in the batch.

TAPMI offers Dr Ramdas Pai Merit Scholarships to 50 students. 40 Scholarships are offered to the students who have scored high percentile in CAT and XAT exams and 10 scholarships are offered to the students with low family income. This reduces the tuition fee burden by 30  percent.

TAPMI Admission Eligibility

  1. TAPMI eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA
  2. TAPMI uses CAT/XAT/GMAT scores for shortlisting the candidates for Post-graduate Programmes in Management.
  3. A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply for TAPMI Admission

TAPMI Profile Based Shortlisting: For Candidates with 2 Years+ Work Ex
For candidates with work experience of two years or more TAPMI follows profile-based shortlisting. Following parameters are used for Profile Based shortlisting:

  • Valid CAT/ XAT/ GMAT scores (whichever is higher)
  • Academic profile (10th, 12th, Graduation, backlogs during graduation etc.)
  • Quality and Duration of work experience (type of company, total experience, etc.)
  • Extra-curricular achievements if any.

Students are informed on the shortlist decision through email/sms to their registered email id and phone number.

TAPMI Shortlisting Criteria
TAPMI shortlisting criteria before final selection round is based on following parameters:

  • For candidates with work experience of two years or more TAPMI follows profile-based shortlisting.
  • Profile considered for shortlisting consists of valid CAT/ XAT/ GMAT scores (whichever is higher), academic profile (10th, 12th, Graduation, backlogs during graduation etc.), work experience (type of company, total experience, etc.), extra-curricular achievements if any.
  • The Statement of Purpose plays an important role in shortlisting.
  • Shortlist for each program is separate and independent of each other.
  • Shortlist in one program does not guarantee shortlist for the other program.
  • Students are informed on the shortlist decision through email/sms to their registered email id and phone number.
  • TAPMI considers aggregate scores and not sectional scores of the applicants in the acceptable entrance exams for shortlisting.
  • Applicants may submit more than one entrance test score. TAPMI considers the best test score for shortlisting.

Final Admission Selection Round

  • Post short-listing, applicants are called for the final selection round (PI Round)
  • All the shortlisted candidates are eligible to go through the final selection round by TAPMI
  • Final selection is based on CAT/XAT percentile/ GMAT Score, Academic Performance, Work Experience, Statement of Purpose, Written Ability Test, GD and performance in Personal Interview (PI)
  • The GD-PI-WAT is held at Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Manipal.
  • Final selection of the candidate is based CAT/XAT/GMAT (Overall Percentile); Verbal Ability Percentile; academic profile; work experience; WAT Score; GD Score and PI Score.  

WAT Process at TAPMI (WAT)
TAPMI conducts Written Ability Test (WAT) to evaluate written capabilities of prospective students. WAT aims to evaluate Articulation and Technical (Grammar and Spellings) of the applicant.

GD Round at TAPMI
Group Discussions (GD) at TAPMI aims to evaluate ability of the applicant to interact within a group. GD aims at evaluating applicant’s skills in the area of Leadership, Problem Solving, Solution Orientation, Persuasion and Communication. Topics for GD will be based on current affairs/ issues debated in last five years.

PI Round at TAPMI
TAPMI conducts Behavioural Personal Interview to understand the applicant’s attitude towards management education. TAPMI will evaluate applicant’s ability in terms of Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Leadership and Communication.

TAPMI Admission Cut Offs: For Candidates with Less Than 24 Months of Work Ex
Following overall minimum percentile in the CAT/XAT/GMAT entrance exam should be scored by the applicants to get shortlisted for final admission process by TAPMI Manipal. The exam wise admission 2020 score cut offs are based on aggregate percentile score although candidates should also score well across the sections of the entrance exam.These cut offs are applicable for the applicants with less than 24 months of Work experience.

  • TAPMI does not accept application in hardcopy mode. All applications must be submitted online.
