Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research Mumbai is likely to open the first phase of its PGDM admission 2020 application process for the 2020-22 batch in the first week of October 2019. The B-school will shortlist the candidates for final admission round on the basis of CAT/ XAT/ CMAT/MH-CET/ATMA or GMAT scores. The last date to apply is expected to close in the last week of January 2020

The phase-1 Admission process 2020 for PGDM 2020-22 batch at Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Mumbai is likely to open in the first week of October 2019. Welingkar has announced to accept CAT 2019; XAT 2020; ATMA (Dec 2019 and Feb 2020); CMAT 2020; MH-CET 2020 and/or GMAT (2017 onwards) scores for shortlisting the candidates for final selection round in PGDM admission 2020. The last date to register and apply for PGDM admission 2020 is expected to close in the last week of January 2020.

Welingkar Admission Eligibility

  1. Eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA
  2. The graduation must be completed by June 2020
  3. The candidate should be registered and should appear in one of the following exams to be considered for admission at Welingkar - CAT 2019/XAT 2020/CMAT 2020/MH-CET 2020/ATMA (Dec 2019 and Feb 2020 or GMAT (Taken from 2017 onwards) and must score positive to become eligible for admission.
  4. If the candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the equivalence to determine PGDM admission eligibility would be based on the equivalence certified by the institution/university from where the bachelor's degree is obtained. In case the institution/university does not have any scheme for converting the CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by Welingkar by dividing the obtained CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant by 100 to confirm the Admission eligibility of the candidate. 
  5. A candidate appearing for the final year bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed the degree requirements and are awaiting results is also eligible to apply for Admission 2020.
  6. It is mandatory for a final year student, who is provisionally considered eligible by Welingkar and offered admission, to submit the mark-sheet and degree certificate of the final year bachelor's degree examination by the stipulated date as announced by the institute.

Welingkar adopted following admission criteria and process for phase-1, profile based shortlisting and for phase-2 admission process:

Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research Mumbai Admission Criteria 2019 was a two step process involving the Shortlisting criteria based on profile and entrance exam score and the Final admission selection Criteria based on other key components apart from entrance exam score.

  1. Welingkar Mumbai Shortlisting Criteria
    The first part of Welingkar Admission criteria is its shortlisting criteria for final selection round. A candidate were shortlisted by Welingkar in two phases:

Profile Based Shortlisting Criteria: Applicable for Phase-1
Welingkar followed a unique profile based selection process which assigned significant value to academic performance, work experience, Group Activity, Personal Interview and written test scores. The applicants who had applied by the last date of phase-1 application submission-January 26, 2019 were shortlisted on the basis of their profiles. These candidates needed to meet a minimum qualifying score in the entrance exam.

Candidates who fulfilled the following criteria were shortlisted for profile based calls:

Phase 1 was Profile Plus Cut off based - The institute + if any + Extra Curricular Activities ( Strictly District, State, National & international level only) if any were considered for short listing to the GDPI.

  • Phase-1 was the profile plus cut off based shortlisting
  • Welingkar considered Academic profile with Class 10, 12 and Graduation Marks
  • Relevant Work Experience was considered in Profile Based Shortlisting
  • Extra-Curricular Activities (District, State, National, International level only) were considered in profile based shortlisting for GD-PI round
  • For Phase-1 applicants the GD-PI was held at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata
  • Since profile based shortlisting was done at stage-1 only, the scores of entrance exams could be submitted later by the last date for cut off consideration

Non-Profile Based Shortlisting Criteria
Applicants were also shortlisted separately with Non-Profile based Criteria for GD-PI round:

  • If the candidate had applied for Phase-1 profile based Shortlisitng and was not  considered would be considered again for phase-2 non-profile based shortlisting. No need to apply again
  • In the Phase-2 application that began on February 20, 2019 the candidates were shortlisted on non-profile based criteria
  • In Phase-2 shortlisting, you could add scores of other exams also by the last date to submit application for phase-2 which was March 15, 2019
  • A candidate was considered for phase-2 shortlisting even without extra-curricular activities, work experience
  • Mere fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria did not ensure consideration for short listing for next stage of Admissions process
  • Phase-2 GD-PI was conducted at Mumbai and Bangalore only

 Final Admission Selection Round Criteria

  • Post short-listing for Phase-1, applicants were called for the GD-PI round at one of the four centres Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata
  • Post shortlisting for Phase-2, applicants had to attend the GD-PI only at Mumbai and Bangalore

Welingkar Admission Process
Welingkar admits students with a proven calibre to perform. Admissions are based on merit only. No discrimination is made on basis of the state from which graduation certificate is obtained. There are no reservations for linguistic minorities either.

Admission process to the PGDM programmes is facilitated through a rigorous selection process which is based not only on competitive entrance test scores but also on profile of the candidate, performance in GD-PI and other criteria. Following steps are included in the Admission process:

  • Step 1: Register, apply and appear in at least one of the entrance exams – CAT 2018, XAT 2019, CMAT 2019, MH-CET 2019, ATMA (Dec 2018/Feb 2019), GMAT (Taken Jan 1, 2016 onwards)
  • Step 2: The candidate should apply to Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research Mumbai by purchasing application form online. The application fee of Rs.2500/- should be paid online
  • Step 3: Submit the application form online latest by January 26, 2019 for Phase-1 Profile Based Shortlisting. The Phase-2 application process for non-profile based shortlisting opens on February 1, 2019
  • Step 4: Candidates short-listed for GD-PI round from among the eligible candidates should participate in the Group Activity and Personal Interview on the designated date at the designated centre from among Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi Kolkata. For phase-2 the GD-PI centres are reduced to two only – Bangalore and Mumbai
  • Step 5: After the GD-PI round, admission offers are made by Welingkar to successful candidates. The final selection is based on a diverse set of attributes which includes performance in entrance exam, performance in PI round, academics, Work Experience among others
  • Step 6: Final Admission Offer will be made to the candidates in the last week of April 2019/May 2019 on the basis of Final Score arrived after awarding the weightage scores on all the components.
