  • Total questions increased to 100 from 99 last year
  • No Essay Writing test
  • Again no NAT Questions without negative marking was spotted
  • Due to confusion many Candidates could attempt less than 50% questions
  • All questions were of MCQ type
  • GK section not counted for percentile calculation
  • Negative Marking of 25%
  • Marks for every correct answer : 1
  • No Negative marking for General Knowledge section in part-2
  • All the questions had five options with one correct option

All Questions with Negative Marking Scheme
Although XLRI had earlier announced that there could be a few NAT questions in the exam, all the questions were in MCQ format and carried negative marking. Many questions in Verbal Ability had no mention about the negative marks assigned to the wrong answer.

Candidates’ Performance Affected
Since many questions had no clarity on negative marking, candidates refrained from attempting the such questions.

Experts at Career Launcher (CL) – one of the renowned XAT preparation institute have commented, “Confusion regarding negative marking might have affected the performance of a few students. XAT Admin office has confirmed the presence of negative marking for all questions.”

IMS Learning has commented, “There are conflicting reports about the negative marks in the test. Students have reported that while the Main Instructions page specified +1 and -0.25 for all questions, the individual questions in Part I showed negative marks for only a few questions in each VARC, DM, and QA-DI. We await clarification from XAT authorities.”

Overall XAT Marks & Cut offs

  • XAT 2020 exam paper was on moderate to difficult side
  • Decision Making remains turning point in merit calculation.
  • Overall Cut off levels to remain 33-35 marks for XLRI
