We are living in extraordinary times: NR Narayana Murthy
India is passing through extraordinary times. With the economic gains of the last decade or so, India is attracting attention, and opportunities from world over.
Delivering the Convocation Address at Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (IMT) on March 18, business icon Mr N R Narayana Murthy believes that business managers and students, who are leaders of tomorrow, must make the best use of the current times.
Said Mr Murthy, India is at the centre of global attention. We have never received so much of respect from the global community. We must make the best use of the present environment.
Highlighting several problems that India faces, Mr Murthy said, While on the economic front things are going well, there are several issues that India as a nation faces. Corruption is high, education standards are poor, and we arent driven by idealism.
Urging the students who are passing out of the portals of knowledge and entering the real world, Mr Muthry said, Youth must have idealism to change things for better. You can drive the change if you are driven by ideals.
Mr Murthy asked students to be disciplined in their pursuits. Said Mr Murthy, I urge you to accept meritocracy in life. You should be highly disciplined and follow process orientation to better results. To excel you would need tremendous hard work and disciple. You must always lead by example. Above all, you should have a strong character.
Ending his inspirational speech on a positive note, Mr Murthy said, I am confident about the future of India. Thirty years from now, India will stand tall as a developed nation that Dr Abdul Kalam talks about. We will be free of poverty, malnutrition, and will have an open society. I foresee an India where foreign students from world over will come for studies.
Work hard, and have fun, because happy mind is a productive mind, was Mr Murthys parting advice.
