IIM CAP is a single-point aspirant-friendly selection process that is common for all the participating IIMs. While the common interviews of shortlisted candidates are conducted by all participating IIMs, Final Admissions offers are finalized by the respective IIMs using different weightages for IIM CAP Round Scores, CAT performance and other parameters.
Before we break more news on IIM CAP 2024 process, lets recap what we already know:
- IIM Kashipur is conducting Common Admission Process (CAP) 2024. This was confirmed by the Director of IIM Kashipur Prof Kulbhushan Balooni with MBAUniverse.com.
- As reported by MBAUniverse.com on December 28, 2023, IIM Nagpur has decided to join IIM CAP 2024, taking total number of CAP IIMs to 10.
- Prof Abhradeep Maiti, Faculty and Admission Chair at IIM Kashipur, is the Coordinator of IIM CAP 2024.
- Sharing the CAP 2024 timelines with MBAUniverse.com, CAP Coordinator Prof Maiti said, “The Personal Interview (PI) Shortlisting Notification and Online registration will open tentatively in the last week of January 2024.” So, the IIM CAP 2024 Shortlisting & Registration will start around January 23/24.
IIM CAP 2024 Shortlisting Criteria
After reading previous MBAUniverse.com articles on IIM CAP 2024, MBA aspirants are asking us the other big questions: What will be the Shortlisting Criteria for IIM CAP 2024? Will the Shortlisting be on basis of only CAT Score or will other parameters like past academic performance and work experience be taken into account? MBAUniverse.com reached out to IIM Kashipur for the clarification.
IIM CAP 2024 Shortlisting Only on CAT 2023 Scores
Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, IIM Kashipur has categorically stated that IIM CAP 2024 Shortlisting will be based only on CAT 2023 Scores. Other parameters like past academic performance and work experience will not be taken into account, while shortlisting the candidates.
Prof Abhradeep Maiti, Faculty and Admission Chair at IIM Kashipur, and Coordinator of IIM CAP 2024, told MBAUniverse.com, “IIM CAP 2024 Shortlisting will be on basis of CAT 2023 Scores only. Other parameters will not be used for CAP shortlisting.”
Prof Maiti further added, “Respective IIMs will consider the parameters as per their individual admission policies while creating the merit list after the PI is over.” This statement will bring relief to candidates who were concerned about the criteria to be used for IIM CAP 2024 shortlisting process.
IIM CAP 2024 Shortlisting Criteria to be Released Soon
Now that we know that CAT 2023 scores will be the sole criteria for IIM CAP 2024 Shortlisting, the next question we posed IIM Kashipur was: What is the CAT 2023 Cut Off for IIM CAP 2024 Shortlisting?
Responding to MBAUniverse.com, IIM Kashipur stated that while the CAT Cut Off is likely to be similar to last year’s CAP 2023 Cut Off, exact number is still being worked out. “For shortlisting candidates for the PI process under CAP, a common criterion is followed every year. This year we will continue doing the same,” IIM CAP 2024 Coordinator Prof Maiti said. Prof Maiti further added, “CAP IIMs are in the process of deciding the final cut-offs.”
So, what were the IIM CAP 2023 Shortlisting Criteria used last year, as this information can guide students to know their chances. As per the information released by IIM Udaipur last year, IIM CAP 2023 Cut Off for General Candidates were:
- Overall CAT 2022 Percentile: 92%
- Sectional Cut Off for all three sections: 70%
Overall Cut Off for NC-OBC and EWS was 74% and 70% respectively.
MBAUniverse.com expects similar Cut Offs for IIM CAP 2024 Process. Since the total number of seats have been increased across participating IIMs, and number of programs have increased too, the IIM CAP 2024 Cut Off is expected to be a slightly lower than last year. However exact number will be revealed soon. So, all those candidates who have cleared CAT 2023 with 91% Overall and 70% in Sectional Percentile stand a good chance of getting an IIM CAP 2024 Call.
