IPM AT 2021 Pattern: Key Changes, Sectional Composition & Scoring pattern
IIM Indore IPMAT exam pattern is revised again this year for admission to IPM 2021-26 batch. IPM AT 2021 exam date is June 14, 2021. The exam will be conducted in the afternoon. It will be a computer based and centre based test of 2 hours duration as against 1½ hours test last year. Important details on revised IPM AT 2021 exam pattern with key changes are given below
IIM Indore has made many changes and has completely revised the IPMAT 2021 exam pattern and test structure again as compared to last year. Now the IPM AT 2021 will be close to the pattern of 2019.
IPMAT 2021: Important Changes
IPMAT 2021 will be a Computer Based Test. It will be conducted at the test centres in revised pattern. The candidates will be required to go to the respective test centres for the exam. Following are the key changes as announced by IIM Indore in IPMAT 2021
Test Pattern: Objective-type test with MCQs and Short Answer (SA) questions
- Two sections Exam: Quantitative Ability (Divided into 2 sections); and Verbal Ability
- No. of Questions: 100 (Increased from 60 last year)
- Time Duration: 120 minutes (Increased from 90 minutes last year)
- Scoring Pattern: Each correct answer carries 4 marks.
- Negative Marking: -1 mark for each wrong answer for MCQs; No Negative marking for Short Answer (SA) questions
- Maximum Marks: 400 (Increased from 240 marks last year)
- Pre-Specified Order to Answer Questions: Candidates must answer the sections in a pre-specified order and this order is same for all the candidates.
- QA (MCQ) Section Time Limit: 40 Minutes (Increased from 30 Minutes last year)
- QA (SA) Section Time Limit: 40 Minutes (Increased from earlier 30 Minutes)
- VA Section Time Limit: 40 Minutes (Increased from 30 minutes last year)

Quantitative Ability (QA) in IPMAT
QA Questions are asked from a range of topics like Percentages, Profit and Loss, SI and Cl. Number System, Average, Mixture and Solution, Ratio and Proportion, Time Speed and Distance, Time and Work, Progressions, Geometry and Mensuration, Inequalities, Logarithms and Graphs.
IPM AT also has questions from Data Interpretation (DI) and Logical Reasoning (LR). You can expect questions in Quantitative Ability section from Matrices, Determinants and basic questions from trigonometry.

Verbal Ability Topics: This section consists of
- Reading Comprehension: 3-4 passages with 5 questions each. The passages are asked from economy, culture and developmental issues.
- Vocabulary: Around 10-12 questions on Antonyms and Synonyms,
- Other types of Questions: Other types of questions in this section include Para Jumble & Logical Completion of Paragraph, Best Summary questions, Word Usage, Fill in the Blanks and Proper Usage of Words.
Calculation of Composite Score in IPMAT 2021
IIM Indore has revised the score computation formula for IPMAT 2021. The revised score calculation process for IPM-AT 2021 Composite Score is:
- Score in Quantitative Ability (MCQ) Section: 25 x (Candidate's Score — Min. Score)/(Max. Score — Min. Score)
- Score in Quantitative Ability (SA) Section: 25 x (Candidate's Score — Min. Score)/(Max. Score — Min. Score)
- Score in Verbal Ability Section: 50 x (Candidate's Score — Min. Score)/(Max. Score — Min. Score)
- Aptitude Test Score (ATS) Sum of above scores
- Based on above Composite Score, Candidates with highest Scores in each category will be shortlisted for Personal Assessment (PA). The PA round may consist of Video Based Assessment (VBA) or Personal Interview (PI) which will be decided by the Admissions Committee in due course
- The Maximum and Minimum scores are the highest and lowest scores obtained in respective sections by the candidates from the eligible pool
Cut offs in IPM AT 2021
The eligible pool for shortlisting for Personal Assessment (PA) is created considering only the candidates having positive raw scores and a minimum marks in each of the three sections of Aptitude Test.
- The minimum cut off mark in each section will be decided by the Admissions Committee.
- The minimum cut off mark in each section will be based on the categories of applicants.
- Individual regret letters will not be sent to applicants who are rejected
Weightage for Final Selection
For final admission, weightages are:
- Weightage of IPMAT 2021 Aptitute Test Score (ATS) = 65%
- Weightage of Personal Assessment (PA) = 35%
- Composite Score (CS)- Sum of above= 100%
