5. IPMAT analysis by IMS with expected IPMAT cut offs
IPMAT Indore 2022 was an online, center proctored exam, conducted on 2nd July 2022 from 10am -12 noon.  More than 22,000 students had registered for the test and almost 20,000 students took the test. There were no reports of any major hiccups in conducting the test and overall it was a smooth experience for students.

Paper Pattern: Paper pattern for IPMAT Indore was a surprise element that students got to know only when they read the exam instructions during the exam. This year there were 15 Questions in QA (Short Answer Section), 30 Questions in QA (MCQ Section) and 45 Questions in VA Section. IIM Indore had only released the time limit for each section (viz 40mins per section) in the admission notice. Most people expected the number of questions to be the same as the 2019 pattern but there was a change in pattern.

Marking scheme remained the same: +4 for every correct answer, -1 for every incorrect answer (no negative marks in QA (Short answer) section).  The test started with the Quant (Short Answers) section, followed by Quant (MCQ) and English sections. Students did not have the option to choose the order of sections. Every section had a time limit of 40 mins and students could move to the next section only after completion of 40 min of the previous section

Overall and Sectional Analysis:

QA (Short Answer) Section - This section was of easy to Moderate difficulty. Even with a basic preparation one could attempt 6-7 questions and students who had prepared seriously for IPMAT were able to attempt more than 10-11 questions.

Good Attempts - 9 or more
Good Score - 32+
Expected Sectional cutoff - 20-24

QA (MCQ) Section - This section was relatively difficult as compared to Short Answer section. The questions were lengthy and many serious aspirants were able to attempt around 14-15. There was one set of Data Interpretation based on Logical reasoning based matrix arrangement. The DI set was slightly tricky and most students chose to skip it or just attempted 1-2 easier questions from the set.

Good Attempts - 13 or more
Good Score - 40+
Expected Sectional cutoff - 26-32

VA Section: The verbal Ability section was Easy to Moderate difficulty section. Many students were able to attempt more than 30 questions. The parajumble questions did not have options and also had negative marking for incorrect answers, but many students were confident of getting at least 3 questions correct out of the 5 questions of this type. There were 2 reading comprehensions which had around 300 and 400 questions respectively.

Good Attempts - 30+

Good Score - 100+
Expected Cut-Off - 80-85

Overall, there was only a change in the number of questions but the level of difficulty did not deviate from the historic trends. There is no overall cut-off in the paper. A student who clears all sectional cut-offs will get an interview call. However, the written test has 65% weightage in the selection process and therefore, it becomes essential to score high in the exam. A score of 170+ in this paper will give the student a good chance in the final selection if they have a decently good interview round.
