What is IIM CAP? What we already know about IIM CAP 2024?
Before we reveal important details, here is a quick overview of IIM CAP, the single-point aspirant-friendly selection process that is common for all the participating IIMs. While the common interviews of shortlisted candidates are conducted by all participating IIMs, Final Admissions offers are finalized by the respective IIMs using different weightages for IIM CAP Round Scores, CAT performance and other parameters. Let’s recap what we already know about IIM CAP 2024:
- IIM Kashipur is conducting Common Admission Process (CAP) 2024. This was confirmed by the Director of IIM Kashipur Prof Kulbhushan Balooni with MBAUniverse.com.
- As reported by MBAUniverse.com on December 28, 2023, IIM Nagpur has decided to join IIM CAP 2024, taking total number of CAP IIMs to 10.
- Prof Abhradeep Maiti, Faculty and Admission Chair at IIM Kashipur, is the Coordinator of IIM CAP 2024.
- IIM CAP Personal Interview (PI) Shortlisting Notification and Online registration will open tentatively in the last week of January 2024.
- Speaking to MBAUniverse.com, IIM Kashipur has confirmed that IIM CAP 2024 Shortlisting will be based only on CAT 2023 scores. Read more.
IIM CAP 2024: Online or Offline Process?
After reading above articles, aspirants have shared many queries with MBAUniverse.com. Amongst the top query is – will IIM CAP be Online or Offline Process? This is a logical question as many B-schools including a few IIMs, IMT Ghaziabad and a few other B-schools have announced that they will be conducting their personal assessment round in-person and not offline. If new IIMs, who are participating in CAP decide to also conduct their process offline, then students will have to organize their travel and accommodation in advance.
MBAUniverse.com reached out to IIM Kashipur, the convenor of IIM CAP 2024, with this query. Responding to MBAUniverse.com, IIM Kashipur has assured that IIM CAP 2024 process will indeed be online, and participating students will not have to travel. “We seek to make the process more applicant-friendly every year. In this endeavour, we are continuing with the online interview process to minimize the travel costs for the applicants,” said Prof Abhradeep Maiti, Faculty and Admission Chair at IIM Kashipur; and Coordinator of IIM CAP 2024.
This news must come as a relief to IIM CAP aspirants who had to shuffle between many interviews calls from IIMs as well other B-schools like MDI, IMI, IMT and others.
Will there be WAT or only Personal Interview?
Another important questions that MBA aspirants shared with us was - Will there be Written Ability Test (WAT) or only Personal Interview? This is an important question as WAT requires specific training of essay writing skills, as well as keen awareness of the current affairs. MBAUniverse.com requested IIM Kashipur for a clarification on this issue as well.
Responding to MBAUniverse.com, IIM Kashipur has assured that IIM CAP 2024 will be based only on Personal Interview Round.
“CAP will be online this year. We will have only PI and no WAT,” Prof Abhradeep Maiti told MBAUniverse.com.
Separate IIM CAP Registration Fees?
Another area of concern for students was – will there be any IIM CAP Registration Fees? The concerns comes from the recent developments where a few IIMs including IIM Rohtak has asked for additional registration fees for their post-CAT admission process. Many students have disappointed that a few IIMs have resorted to commercialization in the name of IIM admissions.
However, IIM Kashipur told MBAUniverse.com, “We will like to assure students that there will be no separate IIM CAP registration fees.” Above clarifications by IIM Kashipur should help assuage your doubts, and help you prepare for Interview process.
IIM CAP 2024 Process is expected to begin with shortlisting announcements by January last week. Online Interview process is expected to start by Mid-February.
