Post Covid, IIMs are returning to their earlier shortlisting criteria. In their admission policy 2024, top IIMs have announced various changes in shortlisting criteria for MBA 2024-26 batch and have given higher weightage to bachelors degree, academic and gender diversity, work experience among other components. IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow have already released their shortlisting criteria for admission 2024 while other IIMs are gradually releasing the same one by one.

In their admission policy 2024, Top IIMs have announced various changes in shortlisting criteria for MBA 2024-26 batch as compared to last year. IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Lucknow have already released their shortlisting criteria for admission 2024 while other IIMs are gradually releasing the same one by one.
CAT 2023 exam date is November 26 and the CAT result is expected on January 4 or 5, 2024. Immediately after release of CAT 2023 result IIMs will release their respective shortlists for final selection round.

* The CAT participating new generation IIMs shortlists are released for CAP round in January and their individual shortlists with lower cut offs will be released in April after obtaining confirmation of interest from the eligible candidates
A common shortlist of 20000+ candidates will be released in January 2024 by CAP coordinating IIM also for the 9 CAP 2024 participating IIMs. The IIM CAP round starts from Jan last week or Feb first week and will continue till mid March 2024.
IIM Shortlist Criteria 2024: Key Parameters
IIM shortlist criteria 2024 focus more on student quality which is not just measured only by CAT exam scores. As such ‘profile’ plays a key role and therefore is considered important for improving diversity in IIM Class rooms. Accordingly, IIM Shortlist criteria 2024 focus mainly on following 3 Parameters:
- CAT 2023 Exam Scores: Each IIM shortlist criteria specify its minimum required sectional as well as overall percentile score in the range of 70 to 90 percentile
- Academic Profile & Diversity: IIMs shortlist criteria award weightage to excellent academic record till graduation and to the candidates coming from Non-Engineering back ground. Female candidates are also awarded weightage to promote gender diversity in IIM class rooms
- Work Experience: If a candidate has a work experience between 2 and 3 years in an executive/supervisory cadre, good weightage in the range of 5 to 10 percent is awarded in IIM shortlisting criteria to become eligible for GD-PI-WAT round

3. IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria: Shortlist 2024
IIM Ahmedabad is one of the first IIMs to release the shortlist after declaration of CAT exam result. This year IIM Ahmedabad admission policy 2024 is released with many changes in its shortlisting criteria. Besides, IIMA will accept only CAT 2023 score for MBA admission 2024 from domestic candidates and from foreign nationals residing in India, IIMA will not accept new version of GMAT exam – GMAT Focus Edition score.

- According to IIM Ahmedabad MBA Admission Policy, the minimum CAT cut off stands at 80 percentile for shortlisting.
- IIMA CAT cut off is lowest amongst all the old and new IIMs
- Weightage to CAT score in final selection is also less
- Weight for profile and diversity at every stage of selection process has gone up
- At present IIM Ahmedabad has an overall CAT cut off at 80%ile and sectional CAT cut off at 70%ile
- Academic profile and work experience will get substantial weightage in IIM Ahmedabad shortlisting process

Weightage to Academic Diversity is included while awarding weightage to academic profile as below:.
- Class 12: Diversity-Lower score of 85% marks in class 12 in Arts & Humanities, will get highest weightage of 10% while for Science and commerce streams the 10% weightage is awarded at 90%+ marks
- Graduation Diversity: Engineering Graduates will get 10% weightage if they score 85%+ marks, while graduates in Medical, Chartered Accountancy, Commerce, Arts & Humanities among others will get this 10% weightage in a range of 63% to 75% marks.
- Academic Weightages: Class-10: 10%; Class 12-10%; Graduation 10%
IIM Ahmedabad Cut Off for Shortlist 2024
In its admission policy 2024 document, IIM Ahmedabad has announced a moderate CAT 2023 cutoff for admission 2024. Only the candidates above the minimum cut-offs in the CAT 2023 sectional percentile ranks, the overall percentile rank and obtaining a positive (greater than zero) raw score in all sections of CAT-2023 will be considered for PI-WAT and all the subsequent stages.

5. IIM Lucknow Selection Criteria: Shortlist 2024
IIM Lucknow will shortlist the candidates on the basis of CAT 2023 score, past academic performance, and other criteria. Key details and weightages applied to each component in IIM Lucknow shortlisting criteria 2024. However, no major change in its shortlisting criteria has been announced by IIM Lucknow for admission 2024.

6. CAP IIMs Selection Criteria: Shortlist 2024
CAP 2024 will be a common admission process for 9 New & Baby IIMs. A Common Shortlist by CAP Coordinating IIM will be released in January 2024. One of the six new IIMs will be coordinating Common Admission Process (CAP) 2024 for admission 2024 in IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur, IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Jammu, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur. The CAP process will be conducted from Mid February to Mid March, 2024. For MBA admission 2024, there will be a common PI- WAT round for 9 IIMs.
IIM Shillong, IIM Rohtak, IIM Amritsar, IIM Nagpur, IIM Visakhapatnam are not participating in IIM Common Admission Process (CAP) 2024 and will release the shortlists independently. IIM Visakhapatnam, IIM Nagpur will release their Phase-1 shortlists and IIM Shillong will also release its shortlist for final selection round.
IIM Rohtak, which used to participate in CAP round a few years back, is not participating in new IIM CAP and will independently conduct its admission process. The shortlist will be released from among the candidates who have applied for IIM Rohtak admission. IIM Amritsar will release the shortlist in February/March 2024.
7. Baby IIMs Selection Criteria: Shortlist 2024
All the 7 Baby IIMs, whether they are participating in CAP 2024 or are conducting independent PI round will ask the candidates to apply and reconfirm their interest for admission in them by the stipulated date before considering their candidature for final admission. The release dates for all the newest IIMs shortlist 2024 are from March to April.
8. IIMs Shortlist 2024: Seats and Number of Candidates in Shortlist
IIMs shortlist 2024 will be announced by including a minimum of 10 times more candidates as compared to their respective intake. The seats shared below may be increased for admission 2024.
