NMAT Registration Process: Useful Tips

To complete NMAT by GMAC registration 2026 without any hassles, you should keep following in mind:

  • Keep documents ready: You will need to enter all your personal details, academic qualifications upload photo and signature of required size and will have to make payment of NMAT exam fee online. So, keep all your documents ready before starting NMAT by GMAC registration process 2026.
  • Read instructions: There can be some changes in the NMAT 2026 registration process. So, before registering, read all the instructions on NMAT official website carefully.
  • Register Early for Preferred Date, Time Slot, Centres: It will be better to complete the registration and schedule the NMAT 2026 exam date to avoid non-availability of selected time slot or test centre on your preferred exam date as the test centre is allotted on the first come first serve basis.

Common Mistakes to Avoid During NMAT 2026 Registration

Every NMAT registration cycle, GMAC flags a recurring set of avoidable errors that cost candidates their exam slot, money, or even the right to appear. Below are the most common NMAT 2026 registration mistakes and how to avoid them.

  • Name and Date of Birth Mismatch with Photo ID: The single most common reason candidates are turned away on exam day. Your name and DOB on the NMAT form must exactly match your Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Driving Licence, or Voter ID. Even a missing middle name, extra initial, or different spelling will result in exam cancellation with no fee refund. Once submitted, name and DOB cannot be edited. Keep your photo ID in front of you while filling the form. Type your name exactly as it appears on you official IDs.
  • Uploading a Non-Compliant Photograph: Many candidates upload selfies, photos with sunglasses, group photos cropped, or images below 1 MB. GMAC requires a recent passport-size colour photograph in JPEG format, minimum 1 MB file size, with clear face visibility and a light background. The photo must bear likeness to your photo ID, as the proctor will visually verify both on exam day. Get a fresh passport photograph clicked at a studio in the same week as registration. Avoid old college ID photos or filtered images.
  • Choosing Exam Mode Without Checking Infrastructure: The exam mode (Test Centre vs Online Proctored at Home) cannot be changed after slot booking — not even on rescheduling. Many candidates choose Online Proctored mode without verifying their broadband speed, webcam, microphone, room privacy, or backup power supply, leading to exam termination by the proctor. So, if choosing Online Proctored, run a test on pages.talview.com/securebrowser beforehand. If your home setup is unreliable, choose Test Centre mode and book a slot in a city you can travel to.
  • Last-Day Registration Rush: Last year, NMAT saw heavy server load and slot unavailability in the final 48 hours before the deadline. Many candidates couldn't secure their preferred date, time, or city as slots are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Some candidates lost their payment due to session timeouts during peak hours. So, complete NMAT 2026 registration within the first 2 weeks of opening (August 1–15, 2026 expected). Early registration secures the best test centre and date combinations.
  • Selecting B-School Preferences Without Research: The 5 free B-school score reports are sent automatically to your selected programmes. Once submitted, you cannot replace them without paying Rs 300 + GST per additional school. Many candidates select random B-schools at registration without checking cut-off scores, application deadlines, or whether the B-school still considers NMAT (some institutes have transitioned to CAT-only). Before starting registration, shortlist your top 5 NMAT-accepting B-schools based on your target score, cut-offs, and admission deadlines. Refer to MBAUniverse.com's Top MBA Colleges Accepting NMAT 2026 Score for cut-off data.
  • Not Saving the Payment E-Receipt and GMAC ID: GMAC issues a unique GMAC ID (format: GI followed by 9 digits) upon successful registration. This ID is required for B-school applications (especially NMIMS, which mandates it on the NMIMS application portal). Many candidates lose the confirmation email and struggle to retrieve their GMAC ID later.

NMAT 2026 Test Cities & Centres

NMAT 2026 by GMAC will be conducted across a wide network of test centres in India and some international cities, giving candidates significant flexibility to choose a convenient exam location. NMAT 2026 Test Cities: Key Facts

  • Total Indian Test Cities (2025): 73 cities
  • Total Test Centres in India (2025): 76 (some cities like Mumbai have multiple centres — Andheri, Borivali, Dahisar)
  • International Cities: 4 (Kathmandu, Dhaka, Colombo, Thimphu) for Online Proctored test only
  • Test Mode: Computer-based test (Test Centre mode) OR Online Proctored at Home
  • Slot Allocation: First-come, first-served (FCFS) basis
  • Centre Selection: Done during slot booking after registration is complete

How to Choose Your NMAT 2026 Test Centre? NMAT 2026 candidates can select their preferred test city and centre during the slot booking process, which happens immediately after submitting the registration form and paying the fee. For the complete, regularly updated list of NMAT 2026 test centres with addresses and slot availability, visit dedicated page: NMAT 2026 Exam Centres.

What is NMAT Exam Retake?

The NMAT exam retake is an opportunity for candidates to reappear in the NMAT exam within the same testing cycle (year) to improve their scores. After completing the first attempt, a candidate can choose to retake the exam up to two more times, making it a total of three attempts in one cycle. A minimum gap of 15 days is required between two valid attempts. However, in case of No Show, NDA Refused, or Incomplete exam, candidates can re-book after 24 hours. NMAT exam retakes can be booked through the NMAT account by paying an additional retake fee. The highest score among all attempts is considered for admission by participating B-schools. However, NMIMS Mumbai considers only the first exam scores, and doesn’t allow resubmission of retake scores.

What is NMAT Exam Rescheduling?

NMAT exam rescheduling allows candidates to change the date, time, or test location of their scheduled exam. This option can be used up to 72 hours before the scheduled exam date, subject to availability of slots. To reschedule, candidates must log in to their NMAT account, choose the reschedule option, select a new date/slot/centre, and pay a rescheduling fee of Rs 1200. This flexibility helps candidates avoid missing the exam due to unforeseen circumstances.

NMAT 2026 Additional Phase Registration

Based on historical patterns, GMAC conducts an NMAT Additional Phase in early January each year, giving aspirants a second opportunity to appear for the NMAT exam if they could not register or perform their best during the main November–December window.

For the NMAT 2026 cycle, the Additional Phase is expected to be held in January 2027 (tentative) with a short registration window (typically 5–7 days) opening in late December 2026 or early January 2027. Exact Additional Phase dates will be announced by GMAC on mba.com/exams/nmat closer to the main exam window's conclusion.

The Additional Phase carries the same Rs 3,000 + taxes registration fee. However, candidates should note that NMIMS University and some other top B-schools close their MBA admission applications by mid-January 2027, so Additional Phase scores may not be accepted by all institutes.

Log in to your NMAT dashboard, select the reschedule option, choose a new date/slot/centre, and pay a rescheduling fee of Rs 1,200 plus taxes to confirm.
The NMAT 2026 application form is filled online on mba.com/exams/nmat. After creating an account and logging in to the NMAT Dashboard, candidates must enter personal details, contact address, educational qualifications, work experience and college preferences (upto 5 free of cost). Candidates should accept the declaration form, schedule your exam (Test Centre or Online Proctored at Home), and pay the fee to confirm.
Candidates can take the NMAT exam up to three times in one testing cycle — one first attempt plus two retakes. A minimum 15-day gap is mandatory between two valid attempts. Most B-schools accept the highest score, but NMIMS Mumbai considers only the first-attempt score for admissions.
Based on the NMAT 2025 calendar, NMAT 2026 registration is expected to start on August 1, 2026 on the official NMAT by GMAC website, mba.com/exams/nmat. The registration window will likely remain open until mid-to-late October 2026. The exact start date will be announced by GMAC via the official website.
