Full-time Ph.D scholars at IIM Sambalpur are exempted from tuition/programme fee. However, the selected candidates will have to deposit an offer of acceptance fee of INR 50,780 to confirm the acceptance of the offer out of which an amount of INR 44,000 will be refunded after completion of the programme by the candidate, else it will be forfeited and an amount of INR 6000/- (excluding GST @ 18%) will be adjusted towards alumni fee (Non-Refundable).

IIM Sambalpur provides a comprehensive fellowship that covers all academic expenses including tuition, computer, library, medical insurance, placement, and alumni fees. In addition, a monthly subsistence allowance of Rs.35,000/- for first and second years, and Rs. 40,000/- after submitting the TAC approved thesis proposal will be provided till 4 years. 

A maximum of two six-month extensions may be provided subject to the recommendation of the Doctoral Committee and Competent Authority. Since the PhD is a full-time residential programme, bachelor accommodation will be provided to all the students in the hostel. A fixed number of houses for married students may be made available on permanent campus.

The PhD Programme at IIM Sambalpur is composed of two phases-Course Work and Thesis Work. The full time PhD curriculum for each phase is as below: 

• Phase-1: Course Work: The course-work consists of Master of Business Administration (MBA) Programme – level courses; General Core Courses; Domain-Specific Courses and Course of Independent Study (CIS). The academic requirements for the successful completion of this component are the same as for the MBA Programme. Comprehensive Examination will be conducted at the end of the second year to test whether the student has obtained a satisfactory level of comprehension and application of the concepts learned in his/her field of specialization. The Comprehensive Examination will comprise of both written and viva examination.
• Phase-2: Thesis Work: The thesis is the document that forms a major component for fulfilling the criteria for the award of PhD. The thesis work broadly consists of 5 important stages comprising Thesis Work Registration Process; Constitution and Approval of the Thesis Committee; Defense of Thesis Proposal; Thesis Submission and Examination; Pre-thesis Submission Defense
• Specializations: Candidates in PhD programme at IIM Sambalpur can pursue PhD in the specialization areas of Organizational Behavior & Human Resource Management; Finance & Accounting Management; Operations Management; Economics; Policy & Strategic Management; Information System Management; Marketing Management

IIM Sambalpur PhD Admission process has following key steps:

• Submit Application: Check Eligibility and Submit Application Online with requisite application fees of Rs.1180
• Submit SoP: Along with the application, the candidate should submit a SOP not exceeding 2000 words and should include a title, research motivation, possible research approaches, and references.
• Entrance Test: Candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria must have taken CAT in last three years; Or GRE/GATE/GMAT/JRF (UGC/CSIR) taken during the last two years; Or Valid Research Aptitude Test Score (IIMSAT) conducted by IIM Sambalpur
• Exemption from Entrance Test: Candidates who have already passed two-year full-time PGP/ MBA from IIMs or Institutions/ Universities in NIRF 2023 top 50 Ranking with a minimum CGPA of 6.00 and above on a scale of Ten or equivalent or with a minimum of 60 percent marks or equivalent are exempted from the test score.
• Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted for PI round based on entrance exam score
• Personal Interview: Upon being shortlisted, the candidate shall appear for a personal interview before the Expert panel. The panel will assess the suitability of the candidates for research work based on the portfolio of the candidate. Candidate will especially be assessed based on Statement of Purpose (SOP) apart from academic record, professional accomplishments
• Final Merit List for PhD Admission: Merit List will be prepared based on Personal Interview, Academic Qualification, Relevant Work Experience and Research Statement of Purpose (SOP).

Step by Step process how to apply for IIM Sambalpur PhD admission is detailed below:
