IMI Bhubaneswar Director

Dr. Amit Sareen is the IMI Bhubaneswar Director and a Professor of Strategy and General Management. He joined the institute in July 2026. He holds a PhD in Management, an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, and a BE in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT Roorkee.

Dr. Sareen has over 31 years of experience in industry and academia in India and the United States. At Tata Consultancy Services, he managed the GE relationship at its Fairfield, Connecticut headquarters and later the Bank of New York relationship in New York; he also worked with Aircel. In academia, he has served as Director of IMT Dubai and as Dean (Academics) and Dean (Accreditations, Rankings & QA) at IMT Ghaziabad. His research focuses on innovation and network relationships in knowledge-based service industries.

In his message to aspirants, Dr. Sareen says, "IMI Bhubaneswar is not merely preparing managers, we are developing principled leaders". He points to the redesigned PGDM with career tracks, built in consultation with industry leaders, as the institute's main academic change.

IMI Bhubaneswar Faculty Profile

Faculty at IMI Bhubaneswar work in seven areas: OB & HRM; Economics & Public Policy; Information Systems & Analytics; Strategy & General Management; Operations Management & Quantitative Techniques; Marketing Management; and Finance & Accounting. Each area offers compulsory courses for all students and a range of electives, and it meets regularly to review course content and teaching methods.

Every area has an external advisory council of senior corporate executives and faculty from other business schools. The council meets the area once every two years to review all courses for relevance, which often leads to a significant overhaul. Students can also suggest new electives, which the area evaluates with the council.
