Unlike many MBA entrance exams, MAT (Management Aptitude Test) conducted by AIMA does not award a single “total marks” figure in the way aspirants often expect. Instead, your performance is reported through a scaled scoring system, with the Composite Score being the number that B-schools focus on. Understanding how MAT 2026 marks are calculated helps you set the right target for your preferred colleges.
Every MAT 2026 score report carries six scores: five sectional scores and one Composite Score. The five sections (Language Comprehension, Mathematical Skills, Data Analysis & Sufficiency, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, and Economic & Business Environment) are each reported on a scale of 0 to 100.
The Composite Score, which is the figure most B-schools rely on, is reported on a scale ranging from 200 to 800. This Composite Score is derived from all five sections, with equal weightage assigned to each section. In other words, no single section carries more importance than another in determining your MAT total score. Since the MAT held in February 2021, AIMA normalises raw scores before scaling them. This ensures that a candidate who happens to attempt a marginally tougher session is neither penalised nor unfairly advantaged, so equal scaled scores represent about the same level of ability across sessions.
There are no fixed MAT exam pass marks. MAT is a percentile-based admission test, not a pass-or-fail qualifying examination. AIMA itself clarifies that the MAT-Score is only one source of information and should be used in combination with other criteria when deciding admissions — so there is no universal “passing” mark that applies across all institutes.
In practice, each participating B-school sets its own cut-off, usually expressed as a minimum Composite Score (out of 800) or an equivalent percentile. A Composite Score that comfortably clears the cut-off of your target institute is what effectively counts as “passing” MAT for that college. Check MAT 2026 Cut Offs for all top MBA colleges.
Following the announcement of the MAT exam results for 2026, AIMA will forward the results to the colleges that the candidate indicated on their MAT 2026 application form. Next, the colleges will shortlist applicants and invite candidates to subsequent selection rounds, which may involve a personal interview (PI), written ability test (WAT), and group discussion (GD).
