This prestigious ranking documents the changing landscape of management education and offers plenty of surprises. In a significant result from the survey, IIM Bangalore has secured the No 1 Rank for the first time, while IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta are ranked at #2 and #3 positions respectively. The Ranking underscores the rapid rise of new IIMs into the top league table even as top private B-schools like SPJIMR, MDI and NMIMS have steadfastly held on, despite rising competition.
Before we come to Top 10 and Top 20 B-schools featured in this Rankings, it’s important to note the survey methodology that will explain the rankings. - IIM Ahmedabad at #2 Rank and IIM Calcutta at #3 Rank are amongst Top 3 B-schools in India.
- Despite stiff competition from IIMs, top private B-schools like SPJIMR, MDI and NMIMS Mumbai have held on to their leadership by successfully differentiating their programs.
- New IIMs particularly IIM Udaipur and IIM Trichy have shown significant all-round improvements. It is highly creditable that within a decade of their establishment, they are ranked amongst Top 20 B-schools in India.
- Inspite of tough competition from new IIMs and IITs, top PGDM B-schools like IMT Ghaziabad, IMI New Delhi, TAPMI have earned presence in coveted Top 20 Ranks.
- Other public institutions IIFT Delhi and IIT B-schools also continue to get high rankings on MBAUniverse.com ranking. Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay has gained entry into the coveted Top 20 league table in this ranking and DMS at IIT Delhi is not too far behind.
- Private University based B-schools like NMIMS Mumbai, XIM Bhubaneshwar, SCMHRD Pune, KJ Somaiya Mumbai have demonstrated that business education can thrive in University setup too. However, a lot more needs to be done by 500+ Private Universities to improve their MBA outcomes.

Top 10 B-schools in India by MBAUniverse.com Ranking 2021
Here is the list of the most coveted Top 10 B-schools in India! While there isn’t much that separates the top three IIMs, IIM Bangalore has managed to edge past its elder siblings. Couple of factors explain this. IIM Bangalore is leading from the front when it comes to research and thought-leadership. For instance, amongst all IIMs, IIM Bangalore had maximum No. of Ph.D Students graduating in 2019-20. Today, it has larger faculty pool compared to IIMA and IIMC. IIM Bangalore Placements are comparable to IIMA and IIMC.
As per MBAUniverse.com Ranking 2022, SPJIMR Mumbai is the highest ranked non-IIM B-school in India. With very strong showing in Placements, and recent emphasis on Research, SPJIMR Mumbai has moved ahead of MDI Gurgaon and other non-IIM B-schools. Top 11-20 B-schools in India by MBAUniverse.com Ranking 2021
Joining the elite list of Top 20 B-schools in India are a mix of PGDM B-schools and New IIMs that were set up just a decade back. Top PGDM B-schools like IMT Ghaziabad, IMI New Delhi, TAPMI managed to hold on to their presence in this elite Top 20 list. They are of course facing tough challenge from younger IIMs and IIT B-schools. As many as six IIMs are part of the elite list of Top 11-20 B-schools in India. IIM Shillong is facing a stiff competition from younger siblings - IIM Udaipur and IIM Trichy. With moderate fee and high placements yielding to high ROI, IIT B-schools are slowly making their mark on the top league. Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay has gained entry into the coveted Top 20 league table in this ranking. Ranked #24, DMS at IIT Delhi is not too far behind. The next set of the B-schools, ranked No 21-35, are institutions with strong pedigree and consistent improvements.
PGDM B-schools including XIMB, GIM, IRMA, Welingkar, BIMTECH, LBSIM dominate this cluster.
